too much compression?
whenever i start my OS18TM jato with a pull start/glow igniter wand, i "lock" the igniter onto it and pull. it is crazy hard and almost impossible to start, i almost broke my jato from holding onto it for stability. why is this? is the plug too hot? i have found that if i just "tap" the glow starter so it goes on/off/on/off it starts up great. please help!
-
so you tap the glow plug starter?? like you tap the glow plug with the glow plug igniter???
-
I have had that problem to. check the pull start. how new is it. if it is brand new then try heating it up with a hair dryer. try a new plug to
-
lol i found out if I put the chassie in the vice and pull the starter it will start verry easyly. Put it in a vice that is bolted into something stable and then tighten up the vice around the aluminum, I don't use mud flaps right now.

I just stood on the wheels they are very strong

my starter got messed up yesterday and the rope got "froze" and wouldnt go either way, like completely stuck. so i tried to fix the pull start. the spring is all messed up and came out and when i loosened the 2 little screws, the pull start got loose and the rope got untangled and worked great. so i tightened those 2 screws back, and the plastic from the starter "cover" is pushing on the part of the starter that spins and it keeps it from reeling back in. and for the tapping on the glow plug igniter, i meant that i push it down/up/down/up so it turns on/off and just barely lights the fuel and makes it easy to start. i need some help! i bought the trx 2.5 pull start and i think im getting another one today or a rebuild kit. please help!

Try loosening the glow plug before you pull the starter. That should make it much easier to pull because the compression will be quite a bit less. Make sure you tighten it back up before you take off.
-
I would check the bat. in the ingiter.
-
no, trust me. the igniter battery is great, but it is too powerful and makes alot of compression, which is too much pressure on the starter and my hand, lol. that is a good idea with the glow plug loose, i will try that if nothing else works. what could i do to have the starter wheel inside the starter cover spin freely and not grind against the starter cover?

Why not go back too the EZ start till the motor loosens up ?
My .18TM didnt start to loosen up till over a gallon was through it
Why didnt you get the OS .18TM pull starter ? Maybe the OS motors starting shaft is longer that the TRX shaft ?
-
id go back to the ez start....u need the extra weight.
-
I like the ez start but I don't like all the wires laying around inside of the car. And also I don't want to haull that big thing around with me where ever I go becuse you can't run with it not falling out of your pocket.
-
ya need for speed, i have the same problem with the ez start. i will try it and see if it will turn over easily before i buy the pull starter stuff. i have been running it daily for the past 5 days and havent done the after run because i have been running it every day. i ran it yesterday, and i drained all of the fuel out so there is no fuel in the tank, tubing, or engine. how long can i leave it like this without doing ARP? i dont have my after run oil which i usually use, so could i put some of that Nitro Kleaner or wd-40 instead without turning the engine over and just rotating it with the flywheel?
-
can i get some help? i would prefer to not screw up my engine:)
-
It is ok not to do after run after a run but it is better to do it when you are done. It probily did what it is going to do allready but I am not shure
-
go with the wd-40 jatomann thats all i use and i have also used it when i lost my ez start and had to crank it by hand it worked fine.I'm on my 7th gallon of 33% and the engine is still strong.

What about a starter box? They are about the price of a roto start and you don't need to carry around a remoat for starting it. What do you guys think about this starter box?
-
i put a second copper ring to avoid that and it worked
-
ok, so my jato will be OK to wait from friday to monday without ARP? what about repairing the pull start, and using a starter box mainly with pull start as a backup? dannymaxx, wat do u mean about a second copper ring? putting rings between the 2 parts of the starter cover so there is a gap?

that is what i said as i read that!!!!! i agree. id rather use the starter handle thing...
-
ya, but the starter box lasts longer with 3800 mah than the wand i bet. i will try the EZ start and see how well it works.
