Won't work I am going to say I can't see how to fit anything but 1 motor.
if you want lots of power just go brushless with lipos batteries. even if you did get two mounted motors it would be very top heavy and just heavy in general.
Well, just like my grand-mother always says: there's always room for one more!!!"... I just have to find how to do so!
Actually, i'm trying to play the mad scientist!!! But if i succed, i'll see what kind of monster i've created!
ÀAnd By the way, i already have one vxl merv, this one is to become a brand new species!
it would be pretty cool if you can do it just because it is two motors on a merv. i had an idea what if you got the esc off of a e maxx so you can hook both motors to the same esc like this

Didn't thought of that thanks!
Just don't try two brushless ! Wouldn't be able to feed it enough power with our little batteries
how you wanna set up the motors/mount. like the e-maxx pictured above with both motors beside each other. or like the big brushed e-revo with one pointing each direction.

That's what i am thiking of, it would distribute the weight more even...
That is probably the best bet. But you would have to cut up the motor plate.
Well, i might order a motor plate for the model linked above, and use it as a Template to cnc machine a new motor plate...
p.s. ajcar link and your post made me tought of that, thanks a lot!
good luck. i hope you get it done, and show vids. i like creativity more than a hopped up rc.
Sounds awesome, I'm excited about the finished product. I agree with ajcar with how we like creativity in a rc car more than fancy parts.
ya the e revo setup would work better than the e maxx
Well, i'va tried to figure how to put those two monsters together, but they are too big... i'll go whit two velineon 380, they're much smaller!!!
well, first step..
Get a 12t 550 reversed unit or switch the leads on on of the motors so when you mount it up, it wont rip apart the spur gear cause both are going the same direction, which would actually be opposite if you had one facing each way...
second step, cool idea. It is possible but will take some creativity as far as the motor plate goes, cause you might also have to make a motor support for the opposite facing motor cause you are definitely going to have to extend the mounting out with pegs so the pinion will line up with the spur.
next is I have the setup you are wanting sitting in my big rig right now!! the 16.8 esc with two titan 550 12t motors. or maybe they are 21t's?? if you want em shoot me a pm. I would highly recommend just using either two 6 cells to keep the 14.4 volts, or a pair of 2s lipos but the 16.8 esc does NOT have LVD. So that is a HUGE drawback.
It should not be too hard to get the motor up on the topside, or even topside same direction. Just remember to use same tooth pinions...
I just read the last post right before mine... did you also try removing the outer sleeve? it comes off..
oh yeah, i also have two new 380's, but no esc's that arent cooked
two brushless motors :O.o: you going to make a custom mount
That would be an option, i still work on the titans for now... but two 380 would fit better in that small thing.
I'm really excited to see what you come up with!
YEA!! Finally someone thinking outside the BOX! If you need any ideas once you get started, please dont hesitate to post! This is going to be sweet!
Thanks for the interest, i'm at the drawing board right now, looks like it's on the way!
i like how you think. you are going to need a big pinion and spur gears for them to even to touch each other
i thought of a third pinion to transfer the two motor power to the spur... i think it'll work! i gess!
Well if you want stupid power put a Mamba monster in it lol..... Hahaha it's like putting a big block in a s-10 lol :D
i could, but where would be the fun of doing it?!:)
Lol, double brushless in this little thing is gonna be hilarious, it will be like a hamster on steroids!
I would not do the extra gear idea. It would be the weak link and having to figure out the mounting.
I would look at the two 380s like they have that emaxx. Bad part is you can't reverse one of those rotation unless you plug it up differently somehow. But experimenting could get expensive if you cook an esc trying to figure it out.
I know its abit of a crazy idea but could grab a couple of BRUSHED 380's somewhere on the cheap to do the mockup before buying the 2 VXL motors, make a mini version of the EMAXX motor plate then use some spacers possibly the ones from axial since they make them in so many sizes an color cause you know color is everything!
you would be using the spacers to offset the motor plate out far enough so you could get the spur gear room while allowing the ability to move the motor side to side for meshing (slot the holes in the motor plate with 2 sets of holes that are the same way but for the screws you will be using) that should take care of most of the complicated parts... now you may or may not need to make another plate with more offsets but that plate would be just for reinforcing the motor moutning plate if that all makes sence.
two brushless would be lighter, smaller, and more powerful. also easier to mount but where is the fun in that
so how have you decided to mount them
like this

or this

i'm going with something like the first pic, but, are those pics from 1/10 scale? cause there is much less space in a 1/16 scale.
Those are 1/10th scale.
Could probably do two 380s because they're small, but reliable
How about 2 mamba monsters in the merv with foam tires. LOL that would be... "interesting"
ya i think mounting them opposite would give you more room for the esc's
Well, ihave done some work on the twin titan 12t 550 setup, and i'm stuck with three choices:
1- changing the gear ratio to 30/55, to clear the tranny
2-putting a third pinion to transfer the power to the spur, or,
3-putting two velineon380, like TQi said above.
i personally prefer the option 1, what about you?
do it and if it does not work do option 3:thumbup:
Dual Tacon 380 can high RPM/V motors would work quite well if they could be synchronized correctly. And cheaper than a single Velineon.
I don't think you can really sync sensorless motors however?
so what is the plan
