Might be a little late, but on my 2wd brushed slash i removed the fixed gear adapter and used the same screws, no issues.

My best guess is a loose wire somewhere. By "it disconnects" do you mean the binding of the radio to the receiver or the esc to the battery or the motor to the ESC?
