I believe that is for the volt/temp sensor for the stock traxxas set up. Don't think telemetry will work with Spektrum equipment.

The magnets on the shaft of the motor might have broken loose. It happened to mine after 3 months of bashing. Easy fix is to pull the motor apart and JB Weld the magnets and collar back on the shaft.

Didn't change gearing at all. Running 20/50. Temps are fine. Rotation off of jumps is quicker and easier to control I think.

I have been using them for a month or so. They are heavier than stock tires, but I have had no problems. Traction is no problem anywhere and I think it lands better from jumps.
