Going to be honest, I don't recall about the shims. I would give it a shot without them to see if they're what is causing the binding issue.
Too bad about the video footage and the Dynamite ESC. But at least you're getting some new electronics!
I'm sorry, but non-Traxxas support questions are not permitted here. Please contact the manufacturer of your batteries & charger for support of this nature.

Haha, I was a little confused at first because it should be a nice and simple drop-in mod. Hope it works well for you! :)
I saw that when I was looking for a manual, thought it was interesting that they'd have one. Glad you got it sorted!
Digging the color combo, nice build!
Sucks about having to wait so long for your cover, though.
Looks like quite the mudhole! Glad you're having fun!
I'm wondering if Traxxas part number 2669 is what you're after, there appear to be bushings included.
Same, I have done this for years on numerous vehicles with great success.
I was able to find the general Hawk II manuals on Traxxas' website, but I didn't see anything about the ball diff. If you search the web for that part number, you can find some stock images that have...
Thanks for the picture, I see what you're saying now.
I think there has been some confusion as to how to do this mod. You don't need to use anything from the original Sledge Hammer diff at all....
While I had several cheap R/C cars when I was younger, my first hobby grade was the 2WD Stampede over 20yrs ago. To this day, it's still one of my favorite trucks/platforms. :)
Welcome to the forums!
They probably wanted you to buy another, more expensive model that would break more easily and require more frequent replacement parts/upgrades! (Hopefully not,...
Are the blades in good shape? Are the gears in good shape? Do you have anything caught around the motors/gears/etc. that could be causing binding?
There are shock bushings on the parts trees for the Ultra Shocks, included with the vehicle. Have you tried those?
The Cats are fun little R/Cs, slow and somewhat "toyish," but fun. You can still find parts for them on places like eBay, last I knew. I used to own one years ago, fixed it up, and played with it for...
Hmm, I'm not quite sure I understand the question/problem. The internals should just pop right into the diff housing. Stick all four pins into the new diff housing, install the output gear/axle,...
I do think that having a hobby grade vehicle would be preferable to a "toy." Being able to replace parts and upgrade as their skill level rises are great things should they really take to the hobby....
I'm a fan of the Big Bore shocks. I also have upgraded the stock Ultra Shocks with aluminum caps and the Traxxas TiN shock shafts with great success. :)
Glad you were able to source some decals, hope they don't take too long to ship! Its too bad some of the parts are getting hard to find for these boats. They are such fun boats, it's a shame that...
The better questions are why are you considering upgrading and what do you hope to gain from said upgrade?
If you're trying to identify which version of T-Maxx you have, you're going to want to post a picture (or a few). :)
Sounds like a good excuse for an upgrade (as annoying as break downs can be)!
I had to remove and edit several posts in this thread due to non-Traxxas vehicle discussion. Please avoid discussion of non-Traxxas vehicles, as such discussion is against the forum rules. Thanks.
I've been using it for several years, wish I had found it sooner. It's so much easier than trying to check every now and then. Sometimes the messages are delayed enough that the item may already be...
