Here's a thread I started a while back about this:

Still have yet to do the conversion... I'm thinking of doing an...
Traxxas receivers are rated at 6V max, so 8V is a stretch. Have not tried it, so I am not completely sure.
I think it is also a good idea to replace the open differential with a spool so that the car tracks straighter off the line.
Keeping the stock slipper or getting an upgraded slipper would be...
Not necessarily more power, but the rear tires will spin faster than the front. What are you looking to achieve?
Power HD has great servos for the price:...
This is just for future reference:

Welcome to Traxxas Forums!
Glad you are enjoying your Defender! The voltage of the battery is based on the cell number (3 cell has 11.1V nominal voltage; 2 cell has 7.4V nominal...
I am not completely sure, but I think it is stored in the receiver.
I agree with Devestator. It sounds like the bearings or motor, but it could also be the gears inside the transmission. First, remove the motor, and run the motor just by itself to see if it makes...
Yes, the battery should work without any issues.
Forward, reverse, or both, and is there extra resistance in the drivetrain? A little more description of the clicking noise would be more helpful.
Yes, as others said above, it is normal for 4-pole sensorless brushless motors to cog a little bit on low-speed startups. If you don't want a smoother low-speed startup, you can get a sensored...
If you have another VXL ESC and motor, swap them around and see if it's the ESC or motor.
Is it brushed or VXL? The braking power for the brushed motor is much weaker compared to brushless.
Try recalibrating both the ESC and transmitter. Hopefully, that will solve the problem. Did it start to have this problem recently or did it come like that?
I agree with Greatscott that the internal BEC of the Hobbywing is pretty strong. However, it's probably better to stay at 6V, since the Eco Power shift servos can take 6V tops.
To remove the motor, first, remove the three screws holding the motor cover. After that, the motor and motor mount should slide out vertically.
If you can, check anyways to make sure there isn't anything wrong with the ESC. If it is able to reverse without a problem not connected to the drivetrain, then it is most likely not the ESC.
To check if it is shifting, see if the servo has pulled the shifter all the way.
You can also remove the motor to see if it reverses without any load.
To replace the oil, you need to unscrew the shock cap. For the springs, you just need to take off the spring retainer (compress the spring, slide the retainer up the shaft and pull it out).
I've only ever used Marine grease and the Traxxas grease, and I can't really tell the difference other than the color.
There is an LCG battery tray: https://www.amainhobbies.com/bowhouse-rc-trx4-molded-low-cg-battery-tray-bwh-btx-0060j/p865867
As for a whole LCG chassis, I haven't seen one yet for the TRX-4.
The tires wear out fairly fast if you drift around the parking lot, but it looks like you have too much positive camber.
Does it reverse on high gear?
I run 2 hole pistons 30W front, 35W rear on my Slash 2wd, but I never jump it or anything like that.
I think it is a good idea to go with 3 holes and thicker oil because the dampening action is...
