Little solder advice here; use the largest tip you can, don't buy those cheap hollow core tips, and use flux, all that adds up to fast heat transfer and better joints.

I'd try duct seal. Its a pliable sealant that doesn't harden up nor permanently stick. Very cheap and would be effective in this situation and easily removed when needed.
