Shift Points - I'm lost!

My uncle gave me his old revo 3.3 after not being used for about 3 years.
After replacing some things that needed to be replaced we finally got it to run, but it doesn't shift.
I watched some videos and adjusted the shift point a bit and it worked just fine, but the next time I started the truck it wouldn't shift. So I went back in and rotated it a little more, and it didn't work, so I did it again.
Now i'm not sure how much to rotate it at all and I don't know which way to rotate the screw and i'm not sure what to do. Is there any way to figure out exactly where it should be? I'm new to RC. Please excuse my ignorance.

Gently turn all the way in and then out six to seven turns. Tune plays a big part on shifting too so once it's set, leave it.

Once you know it's set close, it'll only take about 1/8th turn either way to get it set.
