Hi everbody out there.
I´ve been offered to buy a used E-maxx that is about 4 years old. It´s in good shape but I need to know what differs a 4 years old e-maxx from a new one. How is performance and so on?
So all you e-maxx gurus, please enlighten me!
Thanks!
mine is over 4 years and as long as its the wide maxx there no other newer version youll probly need new motors but theres no newer version than the widemaxx
so if the widemaxx is 4 years old i wounder how old my non widemaxx truck is.

The Wide-Maxx susension is really the only difference you can tell. In 2004 I believe, Traxxas changed the original 23 turn titan motors to 21 turn but it's really not that much of a difference.
It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand.
The E-Maxx came out around the tail end of 2000 I believe. I got mine in 2001. I think the wide maxx came out in 2003. The motors were changed in 2004. My brother has an '04 E-Maxx that doesn't have the new motors. They started coming on the trucks later that summer.
The performance is great! They're a blast to drive! I'm extremely glad I bought it!

So that means I have the old motors I guess.Originally Posted by cooleocool

If they only have two cooling vents on the side of the motor near the top, then you have older ones. If you have four then they're new. If you have large vents in the motor end bell then they are new.

Yeah, I just checked, they are the old ones.

Thanks for your answers everybody!
But how about the ESC, I read somewhere that the older ones were bad? And does the old one feature two gears?
Sorry if my questions are stupid, but I´m relatively new to this stuff!![]()

well there are 2 versions of the esc and yes the old one arent that good i forgot what the name was but it is black lol the new one is a bright orange
as for the gears that is in the tranny and i believe all versions had this , check your controler and see if you have a red button where your thumb rests
ps . when was the first year that the e-maxx came out?
All E-Maxxes have two speeds. The old ESCs were recalled and replaced with the EVX.
The 2006 E-Maxxes have the 4-screw diffs released with all Maxx trucks for 2006.
It didn't have enough power... so, I rewired it!
Yeah, they changed to the EVX in 2001 so yours probably has the EVX.

The E-Maxx came out in 2000 like I said above...
Yep. The original VX-12 ESC's were recalled around the mid-late spring of 2001. I ordered mine around that time, so it took months to get it after the recall lol.
Good call on the 4 screw diffs...
