    Transmission Upgrade For Rustler

I'm New To The Forum, But Not To The Rc World. I've Had Mostly Nitro Models From Traxxas, But Just Bought The New Rustler Xl-5 Piece By Piece, And Want To Do Some Mod's To It. I Still Need To Purchase A Motor And Transmission And Esc.

Any Good Ideas On Other That Stock Options That Are Available.
I Want Some More Speed, But I Will Be Using The Truck For Fun And Not Racing.

I Appreciate Any Help You Could Provide.

I don't think there is really any kind of mod you can do beside get the aluminum idler and the pro-ball differential.

    - The Pro Ball Diff is generally not recommended, especially for bashing.
    - FLM makes an aluminum transmission housing.
    - Filling the diff with 300k diff fluid will result in a limited slip effect (POSI).
    - Why Do You Capitalize The First Letter Of Every Word You Type?

The question is not what is the lowest turn motor that the trans can handle but what is the lowest turn motor that can handle the Rustler XL-5 without burning up prematurely.

For 540-size motors, the generally accepted answer is 13t or 14t depending on tire size and the quality of the motor.

Sorry, the XL-5 ESC is rated for 15t 540 motors or 12t 550 motors.

The trans, when equipped with an aluminum idler, can handle very powerful brushless motors.

My Computer Automatically Corrects My Typing, So That's Why The First Letter Is Capitalized.

I Don't Have A Transmission Yet, And Was Wondering What If Anything Was Available.

Also, What Would Be A Good Brushless System For Kicking Up The Speed And Performance Of The Truck, But Not Racing.

Novak makes a lot of good brushless systems and a lot of motor and esc combos. Most people love there Novak systems from what I know.

The capitalized first letter is kind of annoying...

Anyway... The Novak SS5800 (8.5) system is great for bashing and racing alike! I love mine! The whole set-up can be had for $170 from Novak (refurbished).
