What is the top speed you guys have hit with your Jato?

I wish i knew, i have a venom speed meter (bought i cheap on ebay), but i can't figure out how to mount it on a Jato.
Maybe some day i can figure it out!
but yeah, just like need for speed said, it's pretty fast!

I would say my on-road Jato runs in the mid to upper 70's, possibly hits 80. I need to get a radar gun some day and test it out.

no doubt that the jato is a speedy truck. though sometimes human eyes miss judge the estimation of the speed. I do believe that the best way ever to calculate the jato speed is by placing a gps handheld devise over the truck with a zero setting then read the top speed reached ..
it’s even better than radar gun I geuss…

i would say the most accurate way is to mark off a 200ft section of road, run through it at top speed, and take the time it took to cover 200ft and convert it to mph.

I tryed to run it on a 1/2 or 1/4 mile lot and my estimate was like the high 55's that was useing the 2.2 foams wich rev up the engine really fast. It was les time with the stock tires but when I get new tires, 40/20, and a new body I will try to do it again.

the same thing i noticed Jatomann, yes it's accelerating crazy with a powerful punch that i didn't see while using the ancaondas.
it's even on the dunes during cold weather running like a scared rabbit

but the rear agitator wheels will catch some tiny scratch from that button head blue screw. so either to change that screw or better to place a bigger wheels.

to be honost .. those scratch are too small, for the time been no need to change anything unless if it's going to crack the wheels one day.

I have those agitator wheels also in the rear on my 2.5 and they never touch, but ive heard that 2.2's do so i guess im glad mine don't

GPS is probably more accurate than the cheaper radar units and also the angle you take radar from determines how close it is. You have to be as close as possible to parallel to the direction of travel and that can be a little dangerous at high speed.

GPS is probably more accurate than the cheaper radar units and also the angle you take radar from determines how close it is. You have to be as close as possible to parallel to the direction of travel and that can be a little dangerous at high speed.

Cheap radar unit might be less accurate than the GPS but if you had a calibrated radar unit they are +/- 1 mph. That's about as accurate you are going to get. To catch an accurate reading with the radar gun, you don't have to stand directly in front (or if it's going away from you, direclty to the rear). The amount of angle would have to be more than 25-30 degrees off center to get a lower reading. I have to admit that it's difficult to catch a good doppler tone reading on a stock jato due to the fact of it being mostly plastic instead of aluminum or metal. More metal, easier to hit with radar.

I think Gps and radar are both pretty accurate, but gps is easier to use, cause you can just strap it on.

has anyone checked to see how many satelites they have on thier gps? you need atleast three for triangulation. we have compared two different gps units to two different radar guns and found the gps units not that accurate in short distances. we put them in one of our trucks and it took almost a quarter of a mile to get accurate readings. im not trying to slam gps units, but we are always experimenting with stuff and this was some info we came up with. so dont slam me for my post but my stalker pro radar gun is dead on.
i can radar a mosquito its that sensative.

well i have a 3.3 with force carb and res pipe and revo gears 15/38 and car weighs 4.9 lbs and i have hit on gun...79.3 mph.....cant wait for spring to see if i can get 80...btw out of 4 runs that was avg.

I never said you had to be directly in front of or behind the car to get a reading. My point is you need to be as close as possible to parallel to increase accuracy. This would be for someone wanting every last .1 mph. The steeper the angle the more inaccurate the radar is. At a 45° angle radar is off by 50% at 90° to the direction of travel the radar would show zero. In the hands of a properly trained operator with a properly calibrated unit radar is very accurate.

As far as GPS if someone has a unit that takes ¼ mile to get a good reading you need to send it back to the factory because it has problems.

I currently have 5 GPS units installed in the same vehicle and they all show the same speed to the tenth. They do have different refresh rates so the speed reading does bounce around a little. Three of the units are made by Garmin one is a Pharos and one is in my QualComm unit. The first four are all WAAS enabled.

But new gps units that are WAAS enabled are accurate >3 meters. That should be pretty darn accurate.

I've only had mine up to 47mph (cop verified), but that's with a fairly weak Mamba Max motor on 2s lipo and a single speed tranny.

Someday, I'd like to REALLY gear up with a better motor on 3s/4s and better tires to see what it's really capable of...

A GPS need to hold the speed for a longer period, to get a good reading.
The radar give the instant speed. And its prety accurate.

I clocked my friend's jato 3.3 with a broken a-arm (zip-tied in palce ) to 64mph

Can reach 66-67 mph for sure. 3.3 not modded.

yes. I wonder how fast a mosquito could go if it did WOT. I still think the newer gps's are just as accurate.
