I went to the skatepark the other day with my rustler vxl with strc/rpm/trax hop up bits and had a blast with lots of tumbles on 2s. Then did lots of 3s street runs on stock gearing and a few wobbles and back flop trying hi speed wheelies. Got home and I had snapped a screw in the strc rear alum tower and broke the output shaft on one rear wheel of the trax metal CVD shafts. I also had a trax anodized camber link binding.
I go to the LHS and get 3 parts, for my electric rustler, and start building it today to see this once I try fitting the replacement MIP CVD:
Then I look up the part number and realize it is for the 2wd nitro rustler. I go to the closer shop cuz eff rush hour and get the hd plastic trax ones, put the stock free moving camber links on, loctite everything, and decide to lower the rear/front as much as possible with the stock rear trax shock tower and strc front tower:
Now that I see the pics in preview mode, I sorta wish I took the time to move everything over to that slash lcg chassis conversion kit I bought for more length.

The new body took a beating today with the wheelie bar fully up on 3s at about 30 mph trying to ride out a long wheelie. Thankfully very little of the spoiler is clear so it doesn't affect the look as bad as all the scratches on top from the looong slide and subsequent barrel rolls. Stock plastic shock tower and new HD plastic rear drive axles survived the event and so far I haven't noticed any issues.
Next plan is new shocks with shorter shafts and limiters to reduce the ride height and limit travel then move everything over to the slash lcg chassis conversion kit I bought. It sits about 1.75" off the ground without a battery/body. I would like to get that down to 1" or under
And why I am converting it from basher to on road: skate parks are doing a number on the chassis, strc alum motor guard and front bulkhead.

My first shot at a "speed build" starting with a used XL-5 roller off of ebay. Lots of Aluminum and a 3200KV Hobbywings motor and Max 10 SCT ESC. Body needs some paint and I am waiting for my wheelie bar and weighted bumper.

Knowledge gained is lost forever if not passed on.
My son’s Rustler. Was really into RC’s as a kid, forgot all bout them until my four year old reminded me how great they are.

It’s got some extras where it counts. Funny how a four year old can find a vehicles weak points.
Ridiculously fast. Not sure what the FDR is... Have to look the tranny specs.

Only truly essential upgrade is Al caster blocks up front.

LONG LIVE THE PROFESSOR! Rest in peace, Mr. Peart.
Innovative light mount. Looking cool
Do you like the TBR bumper? I was thinking of getting the RPM one for my Stampede, but I hear good things about TBR as well.
I’m also running my ‘Pede on the XL5 brushed motor and 5800mah 2s. It is surprisingly peppy for a brushed motor.
GTRs!!! What more is there to say?
Oh yeah, 45wt rear, 40wt front, with VG springs. Have not tested yet, battery died and waiting for more.![]()

Here's a rather old Rustler (shipped with an AM radio, no waterproof anything, yellow ESC, smaller than the current standard bushings at all 4 wheels, etc). All the electronics have been upgraded except for the servo, real deal bearings now exist at all 4 corners, new wheels/tires, etc.
Was quite a project, but I got the car for nearly free and I was inspired to make it fun for often use. I'll get a new body soon to keep this one as good as it can be. It's my favorite 2wd right now... may brushless swap it eventually.

Here's the latest body experiment with my truck....

Knowledge gained is lost forever if not passed on.
I'm posting this in this forum for two reasons:
1) A cautionary tale
I purchased this from the web and received it in this fashion:
After inspecting the truck to see if any additional items have been damaged besides the Top and Bottom chassis. I found that the towers were fractured and in need of replacement. It's a shame this occurred in the first place, but after a conversation with the seller. it was found that no insurance was purchased.
Generally, for smaller items. I personally don't see the need for insurance, but for an item such as this and as rare as these are...It's a must!! Frankly, for anything past $100.00 it should be consider, of course it depends on you and the sellers pain threshold.
I was fortunate in the fact that the seller made it right, since I believe it was his failure to properly insure it, even if it was in the Original Box it would have been damage.
I have since rebuilt this awesome truck.....because.....
2) It's the Grandfather of the Rustler....Traxxas SRT
I was able to locate 2 Original SRT bodies and Decals (waiting on decals). Here's one with a custom paint job.
I need the Traxxas Flag and SRT decals and window trim to finish!
