Here are a couple of pics of mine, with a freshly painted body.
This is an old school, last-generation Stampede that I upgraded with a VXl system and a full set of metal gears. I also lowered the body mounts. The body is meant foe an HPI rush.
New body cover. Pro-Line Chevy painted white. It was supposed to have a double red stripe up the truck to the side off the center. I used the wrong tape and took it off and used black electrical tape to make random triangle shapes instead.
White duct tape around the edges to cut down on scratches from tumbles so they don't turn into holes. The bed is left clear so I can see the ESC. I'll also be able to see a Novak 3s cut off module if I decide to get one and install it.
There is some tape seen on the bed. It's holding a piece of foam on the underside to cushion the ESC just incase a hard upside down impact makes the body mounts flex and causes the ESC heat sink to hit the body cover. The reason this may happen is because the body cover is lowered by one notch on the rear mount with the front mount altered accordingly, as always on my Stampede.
If I put a heatsink fan on my ESC, I'll cut a square hole on the bed and make a larger piece from engineering plastic to reattach when the fan is not in use. It may attach by velcro or a sliding mechanism.
The body post holes are reinforced from underneath with a layer of engineering plastic. The holes on the pieces of plastic are slightly tighter than the holes on the body cover. That way the plastic pieces will ideally take any abuse first before the body cover holes do.
The name "Dustorm" is simply "dust" and "storm" put together. The reason is because when saying "dust storm" it sounds like "duss-torm" anyways. So it's like a name, like Dustin, only it's Dustorm.
A nice black and white look. The chassis, arms, bumper, and everything else that was grey before is replaced with black.
I'm not into fake headlight or grill stickers or anything like that.
Not the most advanced paint job out there but it works for me and it's made for bashing. I don't mind getting it dirty and scratched up. I intentionally didn't put too much time into it.

Ok, this is my first attempt ever at painting a body, so be nice please.
I made my own paint masks out of painters tape so as you can see some bleeding occurred. Like I said though. First attempt ever.
This is my 5 year old boy's Hummer and he picked the decal locations as well as the color and design.

Your first attempt was a helluva lot better than my first attempt. At least yours looks like something that would come in a ready to run kit.
I forgot that it's photos only, no replies in this thread. So here's another pic.
That's when I broke a chassis on a big jump.
No matter where you go there you are.
Finally got some rain but not a lot. But enough for some semi mud. It got the tires nice and dirty but not much more than that. I still await some heavier rain that will leave even more mud.
The next day:
Stock VXL blue body cover with some of it covered with black spray paint.
Masher 2000 tires. Rears are not taped so they balloon.
2s Lipo.

Some more shots from today. I've been very much into taking action shots of the Stampede throwing dirt behind it. It may not throw as much dirt as other larger, heavier RC's. But it will do it and I find it fun.
There's a nice curve of dirt dust in this shot. I used Talons on the rear to intentionally lose some traction and kick up dirt. And Mashers in the front to grip the ground so the truck doesn't travel too much. And a 7cell NIMH battery pack.
In this shot the truck actually surrounded itself in a cloud of dirt.
I then switched to my yellow Dust Storm body cover. It's called that because of the idea of this type of driving. Just kick up dirt as much as I can everywhere I can. I also switched to a 2s Lipo at this point.
In that shot I like how the dirt and small rocks right behind the rear tires are frozen in their movement in the photo. I don't have a professional digital camera but the Canon Powershot I have is decent for what I do for now.
I found this to be a nice all around shot. This was when there was more shade because it was getting later in the day.
One thing I've been wanting to do is punch the throttle with the steering to one side and spin out a number of times to create a big cloud of dust around the Stampede. Then quickly brake to a stop and immediately punch the throttle straight forward and do a wheelie out of that cloud. I may have had it here if I was in front of the truck for this shot.
A dream shot would be to get the dust being pushed aside as the truck goes through it and the photo showing that the dirt is obviously being blown aside. Or even footage of it with a good video camera so I can slow it down to really see that.
I'd also like to run the truck through some dry ice fog.
Here's two more shots below
I like how the rear tires are ballooned large.

I painted a two tone color, metal flake blue, and metal flake green on the Stampede VXL ProGraphix body. My wife doesn't like the RC's to much, but I got some "WOW"'s from her for this paint job
Enjoy
This is a rebuilt original Stampede, one of those that had the servo+ Resistors for the speed control. Bought off ebay.
stats;
traxxas pro ball diff
delrin top gear + aluminum idler
19T losi pinion
Traxxas Black Chrome Talons
Aluminum parts where needed for strength of jumping
several RPM parts for larger bearings, A-Arm Strength
Only original parts left;
2 skid plates
few screws
My only recommendation is to just buy a new stampede, buy used only if you don't plan to do upgrades.

Here's a pic of my 'pede after a run through some mud...needs a desperate cleaning. Not many mods on it...just a Trinity Co27 Pro motor, HPI Wheely King wheels and Proline Dirt Hawgs. Im going to scratch build a roll bar for it like I did for my Wheely King sometime in the near future.

Here's my truck, been pecking at this for some time. It has the first-ever 2" stretch FLM chassis (marked No. 00001, 1/8 conversion) that later became a production item exactly as I suggested it to Jamie, but the nice thing is, you can buy this chassis a lot cheaper now than what I paid for this one as it was a one-off at the time. Brushless flavor of the month, A123 batts, various FLM bits, Savage GT-2 Body, Vintage Sees wheels that look nearly scale, narrowed and pinched Masher 2000's in the front. As you might guess I don't bash the truck in this setup.
