why do people put wings on their mt's?

is it just for looks, or does it do something performance wise?

Same reason people have wings on real racing cars; downforce. Air moving over the wing at high speed forces the rear end down, giving the tyres more grip/traction, which equals better handling and speed etc.

The wing needs to be in the air flow!!! I have an 18 scale and a buggy with wings. They are a handfull without the wings. At speed it provides down force, the side dames and acts like flights on a dart improving straight line stability. Great for the brushless speed freaks. I think neil's ride has one. I'm not calling neil a speed freak. Or is he?

Wings also make good carry handles if your racing or bashing, they can act as wheely bars and rear end protection, and Nitro guys use them because they protect the cooling head. Generally take a bit of a beating if you flip over. Quite a good idea if your heavy bashing. I've read several people saying that a Proline shell and a wing is better protectively than a roll cage.

Some people do it for looks. Just like these idiots with their 4 banger Hondas with gigantic wings that actually make their car slower. If you put it in the airflow it can add some downforce, but these are monster trucks. Not many people who have these are running them at over 50mph so not many people actually need wings.
The answer is no. And yes, mine is faster.

i like mine for a wheelie bar, and it protects my brushless motor from hitting when i flip, plus it does alot for the look of the truck

I asked this in another thread . Will the tekno wing mount work with RPM shock towers, and does it break easily ?

I dont know if it will work on a RPM tower because I have an E-Revo and not an E-Maxx, but I will tell you that if you are actually able to break a Tekno mount you are a special person. I dont see how anybody would actually break the mount.
    I WILL spank a nitro any day...guaranteed. :)

They add 20 horsepower and make it go faster. You can hear the difference.
I tried being reasonable, I didn't like it.

I am a speedfreak, but a poor one! I need the MMM or something along those lines before I can test the limits of my truck and driving ability. I used to have a wing, the but the G3.3 shock tower proclude the use of one.... so I either have to get some different towers (UE knuckleheads), or get creative with my current setup.

I want one to keep the bodies from tearing off . I always rip the back off the truck bed, and the rear body mount holes. NO I just want to look cool, who am I kidding.

i have a wing on my revo...and i had it on for a while and it didnt seem to do much so i took it off....after i did that i noticed the truck was flipping more....which is hard to do cause i have the 3.3 chassis and dropped back rear a arms....so i put if back on....i think it takes off a little speed but i run on a tight track so it dosent make much difference.....i have a rather low body so it is in the air flow....i love mine...i have a tekno mount and a proline wing....hope this helps

o ok i get it. ill see if i need one before i go and put one on. i dunno if imma be hitting over 50mph anyways. im actually surprised that a big emaxx will need the downforce...i would think the wieght itself should already be enough.

    Just put mine on today.
Seems to add some weight to the rear, so it wheelies much easier...not that I'm trying to wheelie all the time or anything, but it's cool and not excessive.
It does seem to add a bit of stability at higher speeds. Could be the added weight or the downforce keeping the truck more planted. Turns a little better at speed too.
I'm also hoping it'll help while jumping by making the truck less likely to nose dive.
I made some minor tweaks to the suspension too, though, so who knows if that's really what's making the difference.
I think it looks pretty sweet too. Not exactly going for realism or anything here.
The way I see it with RC stuff, the more alien it looks, the better:

By the way, anyone know the best way to convert the tekno wing mount to use body pins like in Maxximum's pic there?

Wings are more of a racing thing. The one on my truggy seems to help it land back on it's wheels sometimes if I roll it.
