I was running 14/72 and wheelies were very common but no 2nd gear shifting now running 20/72 and it hits 2nd but wheelies are rare with my 2.5. Also running 14/72 in my sport with a 2.5 and that wheelies real good too.

good thread....if you could also list whether you get more high end, or more torque....that would be helpful

I definately have more torque with a 72/17... It wheelies on demand and if my spur is too tight it will pop a wheelie when it shifts into 2nd gear !!!

Is your S-maxx still 2wd? That may be the reason or maybe your slipper is set tighter than mine.

I'm still at the stock 3.3 ratio 22/54. With the stock wide ratio trans gear set it has more top end that I care for or need.

I just installed the close ratio trans gear set and want to see how it works with that. I just received my Traxxas CVD center and axle shafts today so I can finish the upgrade. I'm thinking it will be pretty close to what I want but I may consider going to a 20T clutch bell. I can't see going any lower than that.
