My quest for top speed thread.

I thought i should start my own thread and not partialy hijack Forbes and Revonitro's thread when i had updates on my testing..

I bought my Jato used and this thread will be to show the progress done to the car. Im having a blast right now! Theres a good challenge beginning for the fastest Jato! and Forbes raised the bar already!

Heres how my Jato looked when i got it:

And then after replacing broken top plate and cleaned most parts:

Today i had the chance to do my first top speed test.

    Stock i did 64mph

For todays run i use pretty much stock setup except a 53T spur gear
had a 52T for the stock run at 64mph... decided to try 53T first to see...
I got to top end pretty fast but i have steering servo problem...

Was very hard to go straight as the steering servo is jiggling...i need a new one!

Heres the vid of my first test after installing the 3.3 ive modified:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6bmIo6YjrY

You can select " watch in high quality"

On 53T i got 68mph, first few runs were slower because of the wet pavement... couldnt floor it until middle of second gear.

Im pretty happy with the first results, i knew i couldnt catch Forbes with this setup but wanted to start from there

71mph will still be a good challenge!

Its an 1/8 scale mugen air filter. I had it on my P9R in the 4tec and decided to run it on the Jato since it will mostly run on asphalt

And yeah bud!! we will have TONS of fun i think

Mike/Over-Revo.. That engine you have should be able to hit 71mph for sure. I remember talking to you on the phone and discussing some things on that engine with you.

And that filter is what all you guys need to be running for this stuff. The TRX filters rob power compared to that filter as free flowing as it is.

Now I am not going to be happy till I get 70 thanks a lot! serious though hopefully next time I will have some help other than a tri pod and wire tie doing radar and camera for me.

    Exactly!

I was about to post that info bud,
Forbes and i have a very similar engines, Adam and i discussed a lot and the timings on my engine are all ABmods...the top end simply rock!

And yes it have all the potential to go over 70mph, my steering servo was very acting up couldnt go straight, just that is slowing it down quit a bit.
And i know im not running the right glow plug, wich will be fixed next week.
And also some other thing here and there

Only difference between Forbes's engine and mine is i did mine myself.
So Forbes have probably a slight advantage even if i can do clean work...
Adam is the man for modding! Oh and i have also something different, that will remain unknow (ill give you a call this weekend Adam. ) until i can see benefit from that mod...

And wonder who suggested me to run that filter?

I modified it myself, but Adam and i discussed a lot about engines. And he helped me in the past with one of my 3.3.

This one have the same Stage 2 timing with my actual experience of modding, precision etc...

But Adam have a very precise modding, so in theory they should perform similar but Forbes one probably have an edge over mine....

Ill still wait for the new mod i did, all i can say is it have nothing to do with timing

Your 3.3 is still young, if its still under a gallon it will give you betetr top end soon.

lol Nah man me and Mike talked MONTHS ago about that engine of his. He is a very smart guy and wanted to modifiy the 3.3 himself although he gets engines done by me as well. I consider him a good friend although we are MILES apart... So I gave him some advice on where to move the timings to on his mill. I trusted him with the info and he has kept it to himself. And I greatly appreciate that!

I consider both of you all friends and not just customers... and both of you guys are doin an excellent job and I love setting back and watching you guys do this. This is RC at it's best!! No arguing just friendly competition. It's really great to see in this hobby!!

OK now Colt. I don't talk with you like those guys. But I have PM for any tips you want to send my way. Guess I can't say to much, you pointed me in the right direction on the mill. Just have to get some tanks through it, but these guys gonna be suprised when my little JLR.12 gets in the running.

Has anyone thought of blending 2 differant %'s of fuel to get a custom blend out of it. Ive tryed 20% & 33% to get27% total nitro blend, now so far it's working good , need more testing to be able to tell a difference.

Hey Mike did forget to tell you very nice job on putting that Jato back together. it's cleaner than mine

I have a little over a gallon on the Jato and not quite a gallon on the new 3.3 in the Revo, it is just now starting to lift the front end.

I did manage an awesome wheelie yesterday, the little neighbor kids came around the corner and were sitting at the end of the block watching it run and on the second run they saw, the jato caught a wheelie and as I had an audience, decided I would ride it some. They all jumped up and came running down the street hollering wheelie! wheelie! wheelie!

Needless to say, with a bunch a young ones running around my feet now, that the speed run attempts were over and the questions and answer session started, and I had to have a pick a number lottery to see who got to play with the radar first. Jato ran out of fuel and Revo was sitting there, what about that one they said, so I ran the other half of the fuel bottle through Revo. I had to give a strong warning about running out in front of my models. Other than that they were good even working out among themselves taking turns to run the radar.

So even though I failed to get my 70 mph club card, still had a great time with the little ones.

I enjoy a challenge and will be keeping my 'eye' on you guys (need all the help I can get!)

Am on a mission now to get up with you all in the "quest for speed"

got a love radar guns, video cameras, and friendly, informative, competition over the net. Is what it should be all about, go fast and help your neighbors do the same.

People like you all is why I am here and in this sport.
