Mine also are ballooning a lot at high speed near 70, it feel like its just about to drift left and right at any slight input of the steering or when theres wind...

Did a first test run with the new setup tonight, but i was alone again... and thats the last time i try to use the radar while driving!!!!!! LOL

You will see why in the video:

    http://s193.photobucket.com/albums/z...t=jatofoot.flv

The axle pin fell off and the other wheel spinning just made it spinout toward my foot..

The speed was about 45-50mph, but luckily it doesnt hurt too bad, the front tires absorbed the hit on my foot...

    Heres the damage:
    http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...i/PIC_1451.jpg
    http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...i/PIC_1453.jpg

The tires dont balloon as much so i need to change the gearing a little to really see the potential now. It is much more stable than it was,
in fact the faster it go the better is the stability...

exactly what i wanted, except the part where it hit my foot...

Tomorow i should be able to do a better test with wider gearing and better radar angle.

Heres a pic of the setup...

I rotated the pipe to have the stinger pointing toward the bottom and a coupler to throw the exhaust fume in the middle of the car so the rear tire stay clean and grip as much as the other one...

Still have some traction problem in 1 st gear until the downforce do its work, then i can go WOT. The pavement there is a little slippery...

hey how much did you get your adapters for?

I found them here in the uk for 25 (about $50) isnt that quite expensive??
    is it worth it?

The total height of the tire (if you use onroad ofna tires) is similar, but less tire sidewall versus the 2.8s

    Less ballooning...

I paid them 30$ on ebay.
For now im very happy the way it handle, the one i run are from a friend's buggy , i will get the ofna foam soon to give a try.

oh whaaaat man i cant find them on ebay! will check again on the US ebay then. Yeh fo sho! foams are the way forward. i cant wait to try that....i saw afew clips on you tube and cant wait to try them out.
Btw can you fit any sort of 17mm adapters on the Jato?

Have you got a wing on it? was thinking that i might try that aswell since everyones going on about how much traction that gives.

good for you over revo that it doesn't "went further"
you were using 1/8 ofna tires.. i remeber that it wasn't supported by some saying it just left up the body against wind.

    Thx guys

The only thing that was holding me to get the 17mm adaptor was the reduce width/offset.

But it handle still very good onroad, and feel more stable, and you can hear it pick up rpm instead of working against the ballooning.

Will fix the Jato this morning and will try this afternoon, if the wind is not too strong i think it will be the day

Pretty soon you two will be using the weather to your advatage just to get that little bit more out of your motors. If you have no clue what im talking about, they say that for every 10 degrees ambient temp you drop, you gain a 1 percent hp increase. Thats for a 1:1 car, but im very sure it works with these little motors as well. Though i will never be able to catch you guys, no money and no jato being the main factors, the best i can do is support you by watching you compete for top speed.

Good luck to all of you in the "competition" for top speed..I cant wait to see 80!!

    Thx Ranger

Yeah temp do make a difference, and wind also. A side wind really make top speed go down, the car is so light at those speed you have to counter steer all the way.

We are having fun with this for sure! cant wait more people try to beat the 71mph.

I know how that feels. i caught a lot of flack when I started the .21TM install thread. No one was doing anything other than stock Jato at the time.

I was happy when Forbes bounced back and you joined the forum.

Trying to get back in the game man. My LHS keeps letting me down on tranny parts, well all parts. Placing order after order and waiting is just frustrating.

Might get ticked off and mail the whole dangon thing to you.

I agree, especially with 19/38=2.0 gearing compared to stock 24/54=2.25.

I'm a pretty analytical guy. What I can't figure out is and it puzzles me is the speed breakdown. Lets just say for the sake of argument a stock 3.3 will do 65mph as advertised. The matched speed record is 71mph, that's 6mph over stock form.

The upgrades include a modded 3.3, better pipe, better fuel, taller gearing w/different pitch at least 8 to 10 oz. in weight loss (body, wheelie bar, ez start, side guards, etc). Better air filter, locked diff. and setup(ride height for reduced drag, etc.)

The modded engine alone should yield the most improvement. I give it 4mph...so now we are at 65mph stock+4=69mph.

The shedded weight and setup should yield at least 1mph....69+1=70mph.

I give the better exhaust and fuel, air filter and locked diff(more power to the ground) 1mph as well....70+1=71mph.

So that leaves no improvement for gearing, unless the engine modd only yields 3mph or less over a stock engine, which is very hard to swallow. It would actually yield less improvement than any of the other mods, cost wise.

Something just don't add up. This proves, just how hard is is to get a Jato up over the 70mph mark. Both Forbes and OverrevO deserve the props.

BTW, please chime in on my little breakdown. That's just my thoughts.
