Smile FPV Summit - Dedicated Camera Truck *warning large pictures 56k beware*

I now drive my Summit in FPV or "first person view". Just added a 500mw video downlink from HobbyWireless.com. It transmits real-time color video and sound to any video monitor. I sometimes use my video goggles or the big screen TV in the living room. It puts you right in the driver seat of the Summit.

The camera is mounted on a Traxxas Servo that is in sync with the steering so when the wheels turns left or right so does the camera. I used a y harness to split the steering channel off the r/x. The Thunder Power 3S is used to power the downlink and camera.

The red wire with led attached coming out the front is from the Novak LVC. I mounted it there so its visible through the camera view. That way I can still keep an eye on it when the truck is out of visual range from me.

To protect the camera from roll overs I used parts from the exocage.

In this picture you can see the video t/x and the camera mount.

Below is my portable 7 inch LCD base station with r/x and patch antenna.

I will hopefully get some video this weekend showing it in action. So far I've been driving it around the neighborhood while sitting on the couch in my family room. I've ventured several blocks from my house with out issue.

However, it's a shame that there can be no more hardcore bashing with your summit.

Well I took the Camera Truck rock crawling today and it looks like I am going to have to redesign the camera roll cage. I rolled backwards down a rocky slope and it bent the cage pretty good. Will hopefully get some video tomorrow.

I recommend there plug and play systems they include everything you need in one package i.e. Downlink T/X, Camera, Mic, R/X and Cables you just need to add a small 3 cell lipo.

Well made another roll cage for protecting the camera hopefully this will work better than the old one. Knowing me I'll change it 5 more times before getting it the way i like it.

Changed the roll cage again. This one is more stout than previous cages so it shouldn't be crushed when I roll over. I am putting a little video together right now should be up tonight or first thing tomorrow.

    Cool

FPV Summit video. Little session in front of the house. I was getting a lot of interference from neighbors and my own wifi/cordless phones. When I go and drive the summit in FPV at a park its crystal clear.

Love the video and the idea. Mucho Applause. Only thing i'm worried about is that it was either built to heighten "couch potato" ism by allowing you not to leave the couch or your spying the neighbors. lol I'm not saying, i'm just saying!

Either way, still gotta give it to ya for the knowledge, know-how, and follow through!!

    Again, To each their own!!!

why not drop it back behind the windshield, mount it just behind the winshield and cut a slot in it(windshield) so it can pan left and right. that way its protected from the stock cage.

That is how I did mine. It worked great. I liked having the hood of the vehicle as a reference. I was able to drive around the track while watching a monitor inside my 1:1 truck. It did make me feel sick though! I guess the fact that what I was watching inside the truck was not what my body was feeling. I could only turn 4 or 5 laps before feeling sick!

I use the FPV524 2.4Ghz - 500mw system from Hobbywireless.com. I would think the 200mw system would be cheaper. Well just checked out Hobbywireless and it looks like they don't stock the 200mw downlinks any more. The good news is they dropped there prices on a lot of items. For a ton of info regarding everything FPV check out the link below. On the web site you can find links to other vendors selling gear.

I get a much better view from up front. Mounting behind the wind shield would have limited my visibility. Plus there was not really any mounting options in that location.
