Since the Duratrax Heatsink is not aviable, this one is a perfect fit.

don't get the one from Atomic with fanmount. Totally useless, the aluminium is so thin and soft, it bends all the time. Another disapointing Atomic part.

Cooling down my motor is becoming urgent... I was at 192F yesterday! I crash and stop a lot less now that my truck is better tuned...

I have those 2 in transit & can't wait to try them out :

    K10175A

    YA-0132GM

... this fan is also in transit (any hints on the best way to connect it?)
    YA-0180

In the end I hope I will not have to open up the wind shield...

I hit my lhs this weekend and started digging through their open parts boxes and came across bunch of motor heat sinks. I grabbed a few that I thought would work when I got home this one worked the beset.. The shop has a dozen or so more of these so if anyone who is looking for one that wants one let me know I'll try to get back down there this weekend and grab some more..

Not sure of the brand but they fit and work very well... I'm still running the stock packs 2 NIMH with the Y harness but I noticed the motor and esc ran a lot cooler with the heat sink installed.

The heatsink on the motor shouldn't affect ESC temps.

A simple thing that can help (a little) is to rotate your motor 180 degrees so that the wires are closer to the ESC, giving you more length to play with . The same principles applies for your Y-harness or series connectors, make sure they do not cover the motor and ESC. You want air to flow!

That looks identical to the align heat sink that I was refering to earlier.

It must be what it is (for those of you that where inquiring, that is what the picture would look like (I don't have anywherer to post pics online, sorry). I have mine so it touches the esc instead of the receiver box, as I am hoping it will draw some heat from there as well.

I just got another one for my second merv (son's), at http://www.rotorquest.com/product_in...oducts_id=9514

It looks like 2 of them would fit on there. This would be even better, giving more surface area to dissipate this nasty heat....

not true... if the motor is under more stress (heat) the ESC will run hotter, if the motor is under less stress (cool) it the ESC will run cooler.

The only stress put on the motor should be from how much work it's doing, which is demanded by your trigger finger.

I just ordered 2 of the align gold heat sinks. When I get them Im going to take the gold anodizing off with easy off so they are raw aluminum. Where would I get the 60/40 paste everyone is talking about?

At your local electronics store. Preferably ones that sell computer components because the thermal adhesive and thermal paste is mostly used for cpu heatsinks. I made a mistake in my original post about the ratio but couldn't edit it. It's suppose to be 60/40 thermal paste to thermal adhesive respectively not the other way around or you will have to hammer the hinksink off the motor like I did. 50/50 works as well if you're a basher.

    FYI
2 of them do fit perfectly and almost cover the entire can.

FYI, the gold one have about 1540mm^2 of fin dissipation surface while the blue one have 1440mm^2. The gold one is 20mm wide and the blue one is 25mm wide. So to compare apple with apple, its 1540 vs 1150, making the gold one the best choice from a theoretical point of view.

Using 2x K10175A will give us over 3000mm^2 of extra surface to dissipate this nasty heat!

Yeah, and for anyone that doesn't know, you need good contact between the heatsink and the motor for a good heat transfer, I saw somebody had stickers on the motor, under the heatsink, that was causing heatsink to do just about nothing for them, and pretty much making it act as an insulator. Ideally you want metal to metal with some CPU thermal compound between them to fill any gaps and help with the heat transfer. Arctic Sliver 5 is what's known as being the best in the PC world, I think Radioshack may have it, if not, whatever they sell should work fine in a less than ideal situation like is presented with these motors.

Sorry for the delayed reply, I forgot about this thread.. The heat sink is an Align Heat Sink for their 380 Motor.. I bought a dozen of the heat sinks as about 6 of us have one of the 1/16 E Revo's or Slash's here if anyone needs or wants one I will be more then happy to sell them to you for what I paid for them plus shipping to your door Just shoot me a PM..

Well, I got my Duratrax one from Tower Saturday, so I guess they're not toally extinct. I dremel'd a little spot at the back and put one of the screws that holds the motor together through it to hold it there. Still used some Arctic Silver 5 for better conduction though, works like a champ, I'm the AS5 has a lot to do with that though.

If some of you would take your body reamer or a drill and make 3 holes about 1/2"-3/4" in the windshield and 2 small holes on the slope in the back, you would be suprised how much air flow goes across that motor. I don't have a heatsink, I sold 2 because my motor has not gone beyond 160 degrees on 2-7.4v-2200mah lipo's in parallel running a 27/45 gear set-up.
OH WELL, YOU SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT A TEKIN RX8...

I'm going to give this one a try, knowing that I may have to cut some of it off where the motor comes close to the chassis. Should still be a solid, effective heatsink though.

that looks like the one i used had to do some slicing & dicing but from the top it looks good

The heatsink itself instead fits well on the motor, but isn't so effective.

Are any of these heat sinks coming with thermal paste?
If not, then they are NOT going to be very effective at all. You will want to use a bit of thermal paste (like used with computer CPUs) between the sink and the motor.

None of them come with it, but many are using it. I used AS5, good stuff meant for CPUs and it works great.

Thumbs up 2 Align heat sinks for TREX 450

These are 2 Align heat sinks for the TREX 450 motor. The model is K10175TA. First you must dremel a little bit where the left screw touches the left heat sink (see picture), then it will be a perfect fit. After 10 minutes of bashing, the heat sinks were very hot, so they must be doing their job.

Yep I saw it too last night and before i knew it i'd ordered one and couldn't head back...also in the past number it states that they are limited edition...well we'll see how special this $9 heat sink is and heres the link for the lookie lous. Also Already Sold Out There was no anouncement on their site or any forums I lurk on about the heat sink so I have no idea how "limited" the sink will be.

Also ordered the STRC motor heat sink plate and the matcing blue motor mount heat sink...I'll also report back on those.
