    Exclamation Ultimate Battery Reference Thread

I wanted to start a thread that focuses solely on batteries so we can all learn from each other's experience and find the best batteries out there. List the batteries you currently use or have used in the past on separate lists.

    Please list:

What type of rustler you have (vxl/xl-5/etc)
    Battery brand
    Battery specs: MaH, voltage/cells, etc
How long they last in your driving sessions
Any problems you have had with the battery
    Miscellaneous comments about the battery.

Thanks! I'll post as soon as I take out my new rustler and get some experience myself

I've meant for this to be something you can do quickly, so if you've already opened the thread you might as well fill it out!

4 3300 mah GP matched packs (2 6 cell and 2 7 cell) worked well until I went Lipo, now they seem terrible
2 ******* 2s 5000 25-30 minutes just doing wheelies up and down the street, 45+ minutes in general bashing, awesome batteries for 20 bux.
Everything was run in a vxl.
Some like R/C's that are fast, others like nitro

    XL-1 rustler(with Novak Velociti brushless)

    2 tenergy
    6 cell 3300 NiMH
    14-15 minutes
They didnt fit in the battery tray very well
^Becuase of the that the 2 leads had exposed wire-short circuited(happened on both). Besides that-very excellent battery

    Intellect
    6 cell 3600(IB 3600)
    16 Minutes+
Expensive, i have cheapo battery packs that that are going to last for months beyond this.
Started out great, one of the best batteries i have ever had till... it wouldn't hold a charge . Good battery, just not worth 40 bucks.

    Sanyo
    6 cell 3300
    12 minutes
    no problems
couldn't hold a candle to my tenergys. These just weren't terribly powerful.

I have plenty of others, just can't remember them, can't find them, or threw them out

The 40C hardcase thunderpower lipos are the ones to have for you speed demons. These batts hold their voltage very well under max draw. The Gen3 Hyperion batteries are doing very well in some independent tests.

I run a pair of SPC 2s2p 8000 mah 20C lipos. Great packs for a very reasonable price. Parking lot bashing I get 60-65 min run time on off road dirt track I can get 80+ min of run time.

    Stampede XL-5 (Not a Rustler, I know)
    Promatch Ener-G 4200 7 cell
15 minutes of full throttle bashing on grass, 20-30 minutes of bashing on pavement.
I got water inside of the shrink wrap once and had to cut it off to get it out. This was a big mistake, as one of the sodder points became weaker and just broke today (after about a month).
They come with the TRX connectors. And at $30, this is the best bang for your buck Nimh battery you can buy.

Ruslter XL-5 upgraded to Castle Sidewinder/5700 combo
    Promatch racing 7-cell matched pack
Venom 6-cell stick pack (Doesn't get alot of use anymore)

I've gotten as much as 40mins run time off road (Depending on conditions) and as little as 15mins on road, which was heavy throttle speed runs

I need to look at an SPC Lipo

What type of rustler you have (vxl/xl-5/etc) XL-5
    Battery brand Duratrax
Battery specs: MaH, voltage/cells, etc 6 cell NiMH, stick pack, 4200 mAH
How long they last in your driving sessions Roughly half an hour, have problem with braking it before my batteries are done
Any problems you have had with the battery They have gotten a little warm, but this is also my first truck, so I may just be imagining things.
Miscellaneous comments about the battery. Fits perfectly in the batt tray. So snug that I forgot to put the batt. holder bar on once, ran without the body and rolled. The battery was about 4 houses down, a little scuffed up but fine other than that. Charged about 15 times and haven't had an issue yet.

What type of rustler you have (vxl/xl-5/etc): VXL
    Battery brand: SPC
    Battery specs: MaH, voltage/cells, etc: 2s 8000mah 20C
How long they last in your driving sessions: Over an hour every charge
Any problems you have had with the battery: The outer film has torn a tad due to my hard driving, I just duct tape the stress points and haven't had anymore issues.
Miscellaneous comments about the battery: My first Lipo so nothing to compare it to. I've been very satisfied with the run times, which can reach nearly 1.5 hours. I had to cut out the back wall under the ESC to make it fit. I've heard some people were able to make it fit without the mod, but I didn't want to jam it in. It only took me a few minutes to dremel it out and now it has plenty of room.

What type of rustler you have (vxl/xl-5/etc) XL-5 converted to Castle/Sidewinder 5700kv

    Current batteries:

Battery brand SPC (2 total) LiPo
    Battery specs: MaH, voltage/cells, etc 2s 8000MaH
How long they last in your driving sessions 35-40 minutes parking lot high speed wheelie contests / 60 to 80 minutes off road bashing, depending on surface.
Any problems you have had with the battery None
Miscellaneous comments about the battery. Had to remove back wall of battery tray, dremel a slot in the side of the tray and raise the ESC mount to get it to fit.
    Integrated wires and balancing tap.

Battery brand ***** (4 total) LiPo, (red, hard case)
Battery specs: MaH, voltage/cells, etc 2s 4000 MaH,
How long they last in your driving sessions 20-25 minutes / 30+ minutes
Any problems you have had with the battery None
Miscellaneous comments about the battery. Soldering problems non-existent
Separate power wires and balancing tap.

Battery brand Trinity “Li-Pro” (2 total) LiPo
Battery specs: MaH, voltage/cells, etc 2s 4200 MaH
How long they last in your driving sessions 20-25 minutes / 30+ minutes
Any problems you have had with the battery None
Miscellaneous comments about the battery. Separate power wires but integrated balancing tap.

    Old batteries:

    Battery brand Venom NiMh
    Battery specs: MaH, voltage/cells, etc 6-cell 3300 (2 total), 6-cell 4600 (2 total) and 7-cell “hump packs” (2 total)
How long they last in your driving sessions 15 minutes on 6-cell, 20 minutes on 7-cell (brushed motor)
Any problems you have had with the battery One 3300 and one 4600 died. Won’t hold a charge. I’m pretty sure it was my fault though on both occasions.
Miscellaneous comments about the battery. The other two are just fine running my wife’s e-10 with a Traxxas xl-5 and 12T Titan motor, and the 7-cells are physically fine too, except not enough “C” rating for the brushless motors. Bad cogging.

    Battery brand Trinity NiMh
Battery specs: MaH, voltage/cells, etc 7-cell ‘hump packs’ w/EP 4600 cells (5 total)
How long they last in your driving sessions 15-20 minutes
Any problems you have had with the battery Lots.
    - Purchased two, December 2008
    - A week later one would not keep charge
    - Called Trinity, told to send it in for replacement, bought another of the same at my LHS in the meantime.
    - A week later the other original died the same way
    - Called Trinity, told to send that one too for replacement “bad batch” was given as a reason.
    - Gave up and went to LiPo
    - After many calls, emails, etc, in mid-April I rec’d two new battery packs
    - Used the new packs twice. After the second outing in my driveway and street in front of my house after only about 10 minutes I pulled the battery out of mine to find the end cap BBQ’d by the heat from the soldered connecting strap and the battery pack getting hotter and hotter until the end cell finally vented with a small fizzle.
    - Disposed of the dead pack, the other will sit on my shelf permanently.
    Miscellaneous comments about the battery.
Pure junk and Trinity’s customer service is even worse. Stay away.

    Rustler VXL

    Venom

    7cell 8.4v 5000mah

10 minutes before slow down during aggressive stop and go driving. Up to 22 minutes with gentle driving. It varies.

    No problems at all.

With proper care, they are good battery packs.

    ***** *********

    2s Lipo 25c 4000mah.

16 minutes before Lipo cut off during hard aggressive stop and go driving, up to 20 minutes and more with normal driving.

    No problems.

Good affordable Lipo battery pack. I have one and should have ordered a few.

    Rustler VXL

3x Tenergy 4500 Mah 9.6 volt pack. Good pack for the price. Deosn't take 4500 mah. When i charge them on my Onyx 230 they take between 3600 and 3900 mah. I don't know if they will last long i've put only about 20 cycle in them.

1x Venom 3000 mah 7.2 volt pack. These pack are knew to be cheap but mine has not failed yet. I'm not using it anymore because the power isn't incredible. They deos take 3000 mah.

    Pre xl-1 mambafied/vxlafied?
4 3s 5000 ********* 25c no problems to speak of but not using them in rusty.
2 2s 4000 ********* 25c hardcase surprisingly cause these are the bad ones.
2 3s ******* 5000 25c havent soldered em yet so no info yet
    2 2s ******* 5000 20c (mislable) still havent soldered them
2 2s spc 8000 great packs I always quit before they do hour runtime at least
1 3s spc 8000 again good pack the only 3s i run in my rusty
1 2s 6000 second gen maxamps from before the price hikes. Its the only remaining pack I have from the company because all the rest went puffy (3 packs) runtime is good 20-25 minutes. To be honest I dont use my rusty as much as my erevo or 4tec. And you guys may see it listed in the marketplace soon as well as every part I have for it.

What type of rustler you have:Vxl esc/mamba 5700
Battery brand: (2) trinity (with a lower case t)
Battery specs: MaH, voltage/cells, etc: 6cell nimh 4600
How long they last in your driving sessions: 15 min w.o.t.
Any problems you have had with the battery: one has an "iffy" cell, the other is great.
Miscellaneous comments about the battery: The batteries would be great if trinity's cust service was any good. One battery was a semi dud from day one and the other has held up great for a year. Note: their cust service "tested" the bad bat and said nothing was wrong...heh. They would not replace it or answer and further inquiries. trinity out, SPC in!

    Other batts:
    (1) Intellect 3600-on its last leg, but was a good battery for the price.
    (3) Venom 3000 -one good, one ok, one real bad, all old.
trinity 6cell packs - 5 cells for the price of 6!
