New start. Project: Mod Shourt Course slash.

    Hey,
Well, ive bee using my slash for stock spec racing..and well..it feels a little to slow for me. So im moving up to mod shourt course class. Its gonne be tought with the more agile sc10s, and the new strikes. I want to Improve the performance of this car, without losing the Bashingness of the slash. As i want to be a Hardcore basher by day, hardcore racer by night. So far, ive got a velineon combo for the power system. Some proline dirt works up rear and stock tires up front (Might need to change that for racing). Ive got 50wt shock oil all around for now. Im also trying to keep this thing as light as possible..so alum might be scarce on this car. Heres a list of what i have, and what im planing to get.

    What i have:
-STRC alum bellcranks (For more smooth steering, and less play in the steering).
    -Velineon system (POWER ).
-RPM a arms up front and back (Added durability, lighter).
-Strc Hingepins (More durability, Smoother suspension travel)
    -18/86 gearing
-Proline Dirt works up back and stock tires up front

    What i want:
-Big Bores (Smoother and more durability)
    -SPC 2s lipo
    -Thunder Tech Slash Chasis
-Strc Castor blocks (Combined with the strc front carriers, it increases the turning radius)
    -strc front carriers (" "^^^).
-RPM front bumper (More dura, less weight).

Anything else that can help the slash keep up? (Instead of the driver itself )

I think that set-up sounds great. Lower center of gravity with big bore shocks and RPM arms that itself sounds good. As for other setup and recommendations, others need to chime in.

Yea^^ I hope im thinking of the right formula? Im to make every point of this car "better" than it is. Thinking of switching out the bearings for more smoother ones too. Although, the upgrades will slowly come...as money is not with me atm.
And a little bit of Janging up here and there.

I believe its 1 ounce more than stock. But IMO its the best $85 of the car..as it removes the skids, has a better area for the servo, and has a LCG.

everything looks awesome but i would try a bigger pinion gear. i usualy run a 22 and it seems to workout pretty well but i gues it depends on the track or if your just bashing.

Yup, I can see a benefit in the skids not being there anymore with the thundertech and also with the new steering setup I think the weight all evens out. Also, I think, like you said, bearings would also be a good upgrade in the future. I'm not sure what people are running around here but i've heard a lot of different recommendations and I'm also looking at getting new bearings because mine are in pretty bad shape.

Yea..think ill use Teflon bearings in the tranny, i dunno for the wheels though, since rubber seals can take the bashing and crashing and teflons cant very well.

From what I have been told, the stockers are actually only shielded not sealed. I'm going to get some rubber SEALED bearings for the wheels and trany.

im using SEALED bearings in the tranny and wheels. im using AVID bearings all the way around. i would also get the STRC rear bearing carriers since youre already at it buying the fronts. i also did not see the rpm rear bumper mount. thats an improvement too as the stock one doesnt hold up as well and normally eventually starts to just hang on.

One of the guys at my track did a unique low CG mod for his Slash. Instead of the Thundertech chassis (which some folks have had issues with the screws on the stand offs breaking), he used a Rustler chassis and extended the rear tranny mount to get the proper wheelbase.

He ran for a few race weekends and decided to try a different design (he loves to do R&D on his truck). Anyway, him and a guy running a Thundertech chassis traded first and second all day long, and were eating the SC10's for lunch. His chassis is for sale on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=tab%3DBidding

I'm the guy with the $16 bid, but I won't be heart broken if someone outbids me. I was getting it to put on the shelf until I got the other parts (RPM ams, tranny, etc...) since I'm planning to keep my current Slash in Spec class as well. Go ahead and bid on it if you're ready to move up. It's a really good handling chassis. If the pictures in the Ebay listing aren't clear enough, PM me with an e-mail address, and I'll pull the full size ones off our club forum and send them to you.

By the way, the shocks he has shown in the fully assembled picture are Losi's. They worked GREAT...that's definitely one mod that I'm going to be sure to copy when I build my truck.

^^^ sounds like its you that is selling the chassis lol. Seen that yesterday and was thinking of it for my bandit. Unfortunately I have a custom painted xl1 body that would not fit, so I did not bid. Looks like a decent mod. Couldn't see very well from the pic. Got better pics?

Never mind i think i found a way..

So heres my new list of what to get:
    -Thundertech chasis
    -strc castors
    -strc front carriers

Ive taken the rpm front bumper off the list..as i dont like the looks at all.
Any one else have any parts that will save me weight/add performance?

Sounds like youre on the right track.
I did the same with my spec slash, very similar mods too. But, then I went and bought another Slash just for spec. ;-)
I went with the MIP CVDs...dont waste your money on them. Not enough difference to justify them. Get the Traxxas steel yokes and call it good.

    Also, check out http://www.ultimatetraxxas.com/proje...imate-rustler/
Some nice upgrades to the front end that transfer well from the Rusty to the Slash.

A lil bird told me that if you take the seals\shields off of the wheel bearings that thay have less drag but on the down side need maintence more often.

Get some www.answer-rcusa.com bearings for the slash. theyre some great bearings. or get some AVID Bearings, but these are much better and both are SEALED bearings. and the Rpm bumper will save weight for ya! LOL I dont see how you dont like it, oh well.

@ gators, thanks! Although, About the rpm bumper, i know it saves weight, and is strong..but its so ugly! :/
I dont like the one square at top..the slash had the square, but two other poles coming out from the sides. It just looks, ugly to me. I know looks arent everything..but..:/

If you break the thundertech, I will personally buy you a new one.

As in, nothing short of driving off 200+ ft. cliff in -70 degree Antartica weather will break that chassis.

It is, by far, the best chassis for the Slash atm.

It is also probably the second best upgrade, next to a bl system.

I would stay away from that aluminum though.....
