I got my Revo to fly 88 feet with little effort and a much smaller ramp.
That was a buggy...They should be able to do better IMO.
    Impressive none the less.
    No slipper/tall gearing/power = broken parts.

I thought the same thing when I watched it. Their ramp had far too much of a lip on it. At that speed they should use a completely flat ramp at 45 degrees (which is the optimum angle for launching anything) and they could be have easily beaten that. I am probably going to give it a shot once I finish my Electric buggy conversion. I don't think I could get my rusty pointed straight enough to hit the ramp.

Anyone know if the car has to drive away in the end?

One question, whenever he was in the air, was it the wind blowing it around? Or was he just correcting it using throttle?

And it can most likely be beat, he said it wasn't even doing the top speed.

In the vid of this I posted it said there was a lot of back wind so most likely it was the driver.

Take physics man, I seriously doubt an abrams barrel is static at 45*. More velocity and higher angle will get a longer projected distance.

I did take physics man, and I gaurantee that is the optimum launch angle for any projectile. Go HERE and you will see that the optimum launch angle is 45 DEGREES. The abrams barrel you were talking about has NOTHING to do with this. That is a tank barrel. And the reason it isn't fixed at 45 degrees is because if it were there would be no way to adjust for range. So try doing a little research before you try to tell me I am wrong.

I just wonder if they will mention how much tail wind he had in the record book? Look at those flags just flapping in the wind and how high he went, probably gave him at least an extra twenty feet or even more. He said "137 we have a back wind" like he knew the wind had a good part in that record.
So which traxxas vehicle can beat it. I was thinking of a backslash. Slash converted into a buggy with vxl and a 3s battery? Won't have much control in the air but as long as you leave the ramp right?

I'd like to see an E-Revo Brushless Edition on 6s take a run at that ramp. I'm curious how far it would fly. 6s can generate quite a bit of speed, and off that ramp, it would really launch. Anyone want to take a shot at it?

uh no the ERBE is fast but any rustler/bandit/slash properly set up will get insane speed and with a light car you'll get insane distance

I was thinking E-Slayer with a MMM combo on 6s would be able to do it. Ideally an 1/8th scale buggy is PROBABLY the best vehicle for any type of distance jump record, so an E-slayer would work out well for it (being the closest thing to a buggy). And I would go electric because for all out speed electric is best.

Again referring to physics, an objects weight has nothing to do with the distance it travels, in a vacuum all objects fall at the same rate regardless of weight, only if you take wind resistance into account, but even considering that, if the car was heavier it would go through the air better "on the way up" and then the same "on the way down", whereas a lighter vehicle will be the opposite. The heavier vehicle will be less swayed by side winds however. The weight would make a difference if the car were being propelled by a single, one time force, but if two objects are at the same speed weight makes no difference.

But we are on earth. Aero dynamics, shouldn't it be??
if two objects are the same speed weight and shape makes no difference. Just wondering?

Thank you streetdemon for backing me up. I still think an ERBE would do pretty well at this, and you are right, electric would be the way to go compared to nitro for this type of competition.

I'm not saying that, I am just saying that a lighter vehicle will not fly farther due to it's weight, obviously if one has a huge flat plow on the front and one is a pencil it will be different. I was referring strictly to the weight.

the only reason i said that is that the ERBE wouldn't be good is its big and heavy. it doesn't go above 70 unless modded for pure speed (something that wouldn't be smart jumping) where as a weighted down slash to around 4-5 lbs would go faster with the MMM combo on 6s and get considerable speed and it wouldn't have to be a pure speed car since at that weight its almost half the revo with batts it would fly on decent gearing and still retain rather decent acceleration

But you also have to consider that you would essentially be creating a brick that will be hard to control in the air. The slash wouldn't have enough rotational mass to control it in the air compared to how a 4wd would. Also a slash really doesn't have a whole lot of rear grip, it would be very hard to control at speed.

theres a UK website of some kids that were jumping over trees and houses. even barns. i cant recall the name but i bet if they had a tape measure this would all be different. they were bashing maxx's, savages, and revos mostly.... I think you can get a link off of *************.com

man...that video was exactly the reason why i switched the majority of my vehicles to 1/8 buggies. 100% more durable with tons of speed.

Don't get me wrong, i love my e-revo, but i'm pretty sure that jump would have broken my revo in half.
