Ez off oven cleaner works well to remove chrome from the wheels. You just have to be really careful when working with it because it is some nasty stuff.

I just painted right over the chrome with Rustoleum brand paint, and after a lot of bashing it still looks good.

Mother's chrome/wire wheel cleaner works good and won't harm the plastic or the tires. Spray the wheels and let them soak for thirty minutes. Use a stiff brush to take the chrome off, rinse them in hot water, and you're done.

It's quite a contrast from the original wheels. This isn't the best picture but you get the idea.

Will this ez-off harm/damage the plastic? Can I also use an oven cleaner?

I like the way you masked off the center of each spokes..it looks like some concept car's wheels, and gives the impression it's milled from a solid aluminum. How long did it take you to do the whole 4 wheels?

I didn't mask anything off. I just used a small hobby brush. All for 4 took around 30 minutes. I just went slow & used a stead hand.

Nope, not at all. I brought a set of nasty looking RPM chrome wheels back to life using the ez off. They looked like almost new white wheels when I was done.

ez-off is oven cleaner and yes it does work on chrome wheels, but be sure to wash them off with COLD water after...do you plan on dyeing them?

Ow...ok..got to spend more time in the kitchen How long do I have to leave the ez-off before it works into effect? I think I remember someone used some kind of oven cleaner to remove the anodizing on alum parts. I don't plan on dyeing them though. Just leave them black.

Lookup the user "Squirrelod" on youtube. He's got a lot of really good RC related videos.

glueing tires, painting bodies, removing chrome, etc...

Here's a link to the "removing chrome": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGkcyHIbRRw

Then you'll want to look up his videos on dyeing the plastic bits, etc..
    I got nothin'

I just painted mine with Krylon Fusion. Just scuff the part of the wheel you want to paint, then mask and spray it.

I boiled mine to get the old tires off the wheels. After about 10 min. in boiling water all the chrome was gone.

Krud Kutter from Lowes works good also, its a degreaser. I sprayed it on and used a tooth brush to work the chrome off then sprayed some more untill all the chrome was off! Their shiny black now

This may sound dumb, but I just used sharpie markers to paint the inside part of the wheel black (right over the chrome) and painted the beadlock red, and then later I painted the beadlock silver looks just as good as paint IMHO.

hey guys got a tip if you use nitro fuel to clean the chrome off the rims to make them black. IF YOU DON'T REMOVE THE FOAM INNER PIECE, THE FOAM WILL ABSORB THE NITRO FUEL AND WILL BE SOFT AND USELESS. (I learn from experience lol) Then i tried paint and decal remover in a spray can, its says not to use on plastic, but if your careful and watch them for 2-4 min and then pressure wash them (with a small high pressure washer duh), they turn out awesome.

    Just my 2 cents.
