    Smoking VXL esc

    Hey everyone,

I'm somewhat new here; I lurk around alot, but never really did much posting since I'm too new to be much help, although I could use some help

I bought VXL system for my slash around the beginning of summer. I don't run it every single day, but I try to get in at least 3 runs a week. I don't do any heavy bashing to it either, just run it on dry dirt. It's been working fine until this morning. When I plugged my battery in, about a second later smoke started coming out of my ESC, and I haven't even pressed the 'on' button yet. I quickly unplugged my battery, and checked the ESC; nothing visibly wrong, but it was quite hot to the touch. The motor looks and feels fine.

Has anybody run into this problem before?

What battery are you using and what is your gearing? You either got the ESc really hot and it finally went poof or its just bad. Either way its time to call Traxxas.

I had a feeling you'd say that again. Thanks for the help though!
Any chance you could ballpark how much this would run me?

The last 2 esc that were shot cost me $45 each and they sent me back a brand new one! Cant beat that. I wish Traxxas had a longer warrenty.

I already emailed Traxxas but I may have to send them another one...

Earlier today I decided to just check it out one more time. This time when I connected the battery no smoke came out of the ESC. It was still hot even though I haven't turned it on, but not so hot this time that I can actually keep prolong contact with my finger. When I drove it around, it was stuttering more than usual, and my reverse was no longer working (and yes I made sure I wasn't in race mode), although the brakes are fine.

little secret of the rc world. all electronics actually run on smoke, and once the smoke escapes the electronics are shot, unless your fast enough to collect the smoke and put it back in. sorry i couldn't resist.
