    TRA6840 GoPro camera mount

Anyone seen any details of TRA6840 yet?

Wondering where & how the GoPro is mounted on the car

I've been curious about the same thing. I'll probably just fabricate my own mount if it doesn't come out soon. I've already got the camera for my real car.

    same!

hoping that the factory design will be something that will hold the cam without
any screwclamps... otherwise Hero starts "nodding" down after every bump

can't every get it tight enough (yes even with a screwdriver haha)
as the plastic-2-plastic in the clamp doesn't make enough friction

scuff the mounts up a little with some sandpaper. Worked for me! No more nodding down, or up, after that.

Speaking of mounts, has anyone made up their own yet? I took the mount that the GoPro HD came mounted on in the package and cut it to fit the front of the chassis right behind the front shock tower and used the screw holes for the sway bar to hold it in. With the lower clip on the camera case, the camera power button rests nicely on the shock tower preventing the camera from nodding down also. I'll try to get some pics up later.

Here's a quick lip of the mounts POV

how's the HD going, did you have a Std Def version before that?

Tempted at getting an HD as i hear its Vision Field is narrower than the
170deg Wide... which imho looks unnaturally too fisheye wide.
Something 130-150deg would be just nice.

I like having the fenders in view to give perspective.

    my last Slash mounting:-

it might look like its just glued to the top of shell, but that shell's had
a heap of aluminium framework stuck underneath from nose to tail
to support the camera without bouncing

I just made my own mounting plate: http://monster.traxxas.com/showthread.php?t=509250

It broke due to a hard crash, so I think a similar mounting plate made out of aluminum would be ideal.

As for the viewing angle, the GoPro HD still has the 170* wide angle lens and uses that viewing angle for most modes. The 1080p mode is the only mode that uses a narrower angle of 127*.

Here's a video that includes clips recorded in the 1080p mode: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2L_-bNm2Wrs&fmt=18

LOL... that's much better than the video of my mount breaking. The camera stayed in my car when mine broke. That clip is included toward the end of my video in the post above.

I really liked the view from that mounting position. I think the same mount made of aluminum would be awesome.

plexiglass isn't that fragile unless you've given it some weak points to crack
from... i'd bet it broke right where you screwed thru it?

when bolting down such materials, always use a washer under the caphead

with the gopro i like the lens centred, offsetting the camera body to the right

saw somewhere once where they made a new battery plate as mount

was thinking of folding some metal to make a tunnel over the battery
but haven't had time to look more into it

Should have mentioned that part of the GoPro mount broke. In the kit, it come with 2 low clips and 1 high clip. I have the high one on the truck at the time of the crash and it snapped it right off at the base. I've also broke one of the extension pieces. Guess it's time to order up some more parts!
