I have lived in So Calif for an accumulated 20+ yrs and have grown rather callus toward earth quakes. We had a big one today that was actually centered in Baja Mexico and registered 7.2 on the rictor scale. This one did not feel very violent here but was the LONGEST lasting quake I have ever felt. The house just kept shaking and felt like it was never going to stop. It was really odd, in all my quake experiences I have never felt one that just kept on rolling like this one did.

How long did it last?
Bone-Stock Slash FTW!!!
I heard one news report that said 45 seconds, that does not sound like much but for an earth quake that is a very long time. Most dont last more than 5-10 seconds.Originally Posted by RustySlash33

The earthquake apparently struck mainly in Mexico(from reading). They say it's the worse quake they have had in 18 years!!!

I wonder how shook up mexicali is?
eh...i dont see a problem here
We had one last night also but it was smaller then an after shock for that one. They keep saying that we are do for a big one here, since it has been awhile.
Stampede VXL upgraded broken stuff.
oh yeah, I am scared. It supposed to be for a couple of minutes too.
Bone-Stock Slash FTW!!!
yeah I live near Dadx2mj and I felt it.
at first you could feel the rattling P waves for a few seconds, then the rolling S waves for like 10 seconds
it was pretty exciting.
More concerned about st helens going off again then an earthquake in the northwest.
2012 is starting lol
if your not breaking anything get more air
I'd like to visit the Island of California one day....

I was in San Felipe when it happened. I was on the sand and it started shaking.
We went to my great aunts house on Mexicali, and it was crazy
SLASH IS FIXED!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know man, it’s all good. But, in my 48 years on this planet, I can’t recall another time when there was this much seismic activity world-wide in such a (relatively) short period of time. It makes me wonder if there’s more shifting of the plates than has been detected/measured yet.Originally Posted by scotthw

yea i live in so cal bout an hour north from san diego and i was playing xbox and had enough time to look up and say wow the chandelier is shaking.........hmm those clothes hangars are shaking........ hmmm the lamp is moving .... realize it was a earthquake walk outside check everything out sit back down it was still shaking wonder if we were sliding in to the ocean then said o well keep playing that addictive trials game till we die.
Wow. i cant even imagine what an earthquake feels like. We had a slight tremor here once about 20 years ago, but nothing else since.
How often do you guys in cali feel these?
Is it hard to stay standing during one?
Can you actually see a fault line?
Sorry for the dumb questions, but like i said, i cant even imagine what its like. I can only go by what you guys tell me.
Mr nitro? Not since going brushless!
I've only been around 18 years, but I've thought the same thing lately. There's a freaky amount of earthquakes happening all over the place! I'm dying waiting for Al Gore to blame global warming! Errr--I mean, climate change.Originally Posted by CraigV

they happen every day to a certain degree we do not feel them untill like 3.0 ish but 1's and 2's are all the time. No hard to stay standing kinda feels like being on a messed up boat. yes you can see fault lines the look like little mountains or piles of rocks.
