Hi all, I'm back into RC toys again since childhood. Wow, I can't believe how things has changed over 25 yrs. This is my first brushless truck and I'm loving it so far. I order some upgrades already but I'm still trying to decide on the best 3s lipo batteries for the price. Can anyone help me since I have been reading all over the forum from other and its still hard to find the right one?

    Thanks,
    Charlie

I found these site for batteries, can someone please let me know if you have any experience with them and the site?

If you want good 3S Batts go for SPC. The price may be high but headaches are non existent. If you wanna cheap out, wait forever and take chances then look at some from HK.

Nothing wrong with cheap, its the lack-lustre quality control that annoys people with the HK lipos.

Here's a few more suggestions for you:

    http://robotwars.00server.com/trucklinks.html

and scroll down to battery retailers. The Hyperion g3 vx lipos are just epic quality and value.

Something in the 30-40c 5000mah range will be fine though, avoid going lower than 30c really if you can help it, the esc and motor are much happier if you feed them all the current they want

Nice congrats! I too r/c'd 20 years ago big time, and just got back into it 3 weeks ago with the same exact truck but in black.

I ran my Nimh batteries for about 8 runs and just stepped up to some LiPo's, haven't even used them yet. I went to a couple local hobby shops, they're prices were the same as any reputable online dealer NOT directly out of China and everyone was very helpful and showed me what would work so I flt more confident than ordering online.

I only got 20c discharge even after reading all the debate, but just wanted some 3s lipo to get me started for a few runs with plans to get some bigger 40c's in the future when I'm more a pro at handling at top speeds and then use the 20c's in my next r/c, the bandit.

The batteries I got were Venom 3s 5000 mah 20c for $55 each and they came with a universal plug to fit. Our truck comes with extra braces to fit them so for $110 I went to 6s pretty affordably, albeit at debate with the 20c discharge.

Cool.. let me know how your Venom works out cus I was thinking of this
    http://www.venom-group.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=15026

Also what charger are you using to charge both lipo? Im looking to get a different charger cus I found out the MRC 977 can't handle 3s lipo but I want to be able to charge the Nimh too.

I had read on most forum about dual charger and parallel charging too. I heard the Hyperion is the best but that is to much $$$ Please help....

Just letting you know what I use and am very happy with. For batts. I use a pair of ThunderPower 45C/5000mAh 11.1v lipos and a pair of Hyperion G3 VX 35C/5500mAh 11.1v lipos. They are not cheap but are some of the best out there IMHO. http://www.rclipos.com/ (use code 4U10 for discount if interested)

    For charging I use the iCharger 206B and P350 P. Supply. http://www.progressiverc.com/

BTW, nice shots of the EMBE. I remember when mine looked like that...all stock and sweet. I got the same color too.

Took em for my first LiPo run last night and it was awesome!! They stayed just as cool as they did when not being used and I got after it pretty hard for about 20 minutes. Half on pavement for some speed bursts and wheelies, the other half bashing in some thick Florida grass and doing jumps. The engine temp got about as hot as it did when running the stock nimhs, but not too hot, and to reiterate, the batteries stayed real cool. The power difference is phenomenal and now I can pull wheelies on demand on any surface with enough traction, totally worth the extra investment!!

I'm using the DuraTrax Onyx 230 to charge the Lipo's (it can also charge Nimhs). After yesterdays 20-25 minute bashing they only took 1800 mah's each on the recharge and are 5000 mah capacity, so barely touched em, though I wasn't really flooring it. I'd say peoples realistic run time estimates of 30-35 minutes is pretty accurate. I also use the equinox quick balancer, you can attach it to the battery by itself for a quick balanace, or you can plug it into the Onyx and do a more in depth balance. So far, the quick balance has worked and only takes a few minutes if even needed.

I also called Traxxas for the first time and got through in literally 3 minutes and got the answer I needed. I was worried about the LVC stock setting, whether it came on or off on. It comes on, and I was told that the ESC will auto detect your battery and type and will confirm the cells being used upon beeps at start up. The rep said as long as those beeps match what your running, you are fine. I was also instructed to tighten the slipper clutch when going Lipo from the stock setting as most people make the call I did, then callback to say they burned the clutch out. That was rediculously easy to do and yielded some better torque right off the bat, something I recommend looking into even if you're still running nimh.

My only regret is not getting at least a 30c battery, I wish I spent the extra $50 to get the 35c like you have listed there, I think that's a great set up you have picked out!!

Thanks for the discount code... Im still deciding on the charger and the lipos. Does the Icharger 206b have built in balancer and how you charge 2 lipos at same time?

I got the MRC 977 but I heard its not good for charging 3s lipos. There are so many chargers from search the forum on what people say is good. I would like something with built in balancer and power supply all in one that can do two batteries. But if I can find a good price on one that is not built together then I will go that way. Im have a very hard time deciding....

Is this a good power supply MRC Power Supply 10A 15V DC? Or what should I be looking for?

Great info... since I want to go 3s lipos. Im having hard time finding the right charger to buy that will do what I need. Dual charger would be nice but I heard single charger with parallel adapter will work too. This is so hard

Here are the chargers I found people say is good.

HYPERION EOS0615I DUO III-DUAL PORT ALL IN ONE CHARGER & BALANCE need PSU.

Hyperion EOS 0720i built in PSU and balancer

HYPERION EOS0606I built in PSU and balancer

Thunder AC6 built in balancer and PSU
Sky Charger B6AC built in balancer and PSU

    ******* A-6-10 200W Balance charger & discharger need PSU

    Imax B6 Duo need PSU

Icharger 206b need PSU? & Parallel (6x) Balance Adapter or ParaBoard

    Thunder Power TP610C need PSU

How about this PSU? eFuel 20A (110V) Switching Dual Output DC Power Supply * Model: PSU20ADU2 * Brand: iMax

Just got some Hopup for my EMBL

    Traxxas Pinion Gear 48P 28T 4-Tec
    RPM Front Bumper Chrome
    RPM 3-Piece Skid/Wear Plate Black
    RPM Rear Step Bumper Chrome
    Traxxas Decal Sheet Flames
    Ram R/C Headlites & Brake Lites (4)
Castle Creations Quick Field Programmer Car

Took this out after the rain to do some bashing and got it wet & dirty for the first time. (lost it virginity)

After about 5th run my first replacement will be rear 4917R Shock tower. Thinking of either RPM or FLM19000 but where do I buy the FLM from?

Just a note on the 48Pitch 28T Pinion you got. I don't know how well that would work out for you as the stock gearing pitch for these trucks are Mod .8/32Pitch.

About the iCharger; it has a built-in Balancer. Balances and charges at the same time. To charge multi lipos you'll just need the correct parallel and balance adapter cables.

See vid by David @ ProgressiveRC on multi-charging.

Thanks for the heads up on the 32P...I'm such a newbie to this all

As for the I charger, what power supply should I get? Will this work?

    http://www.hobby-lobby.com/efuel_20a...28700_prd1.htm
    Has any order from www.hobby-lobby.com?

Or should I get the Hyperion EOS 0720i built in PSU and balancer?

    Thanks,

The P350 P. Supply works just fine.

Have no experience with the Hyp. chargers whatsoever, and i've never ordered from that site.

Nice truck bro. IMHO, this is what I use right now and I have absolutely no problems at all with charging. And it does 20 amps so the charge time is like 15 minutes.
    My charger
    http://www.progressiverc.com/index.p...emart&Itemid=1

    My power supply
    http://www.progressiverc.com/index.p...emart&Itemid=1

    My lipos
These are 2 cell so i bought 2 of them
    http://www.allerc.com/product_info.p...oducts_id=5471

These are 3 cell so I bought 2 of them
    http://www.allerc.com/product_info.p...oducts_id=5472

I bought this combo because I can run either a 4 cell, 5 cell, or 6 cell setup and able to have 2 sessions with them. They have a 6C charge rate so 30 amps max. The charger does 20 amps so charge time is isanely fast. I made some series adapters to be able to charge 2 packs at once. So I can do 2 2 cells to make a 4 cell or 2 3 cells to make a 6 cell. If money is not a problem then I would go with these. David at Progressive RC is a great guy to deal with and the customer service at All e RC is top notch. I had originally bought the 35C lipos and put around 20 charges on each. 1 2 cell pack started to show a little bit high of IR. (internal resistance) I called them and told them about it. They were the 5400mah 35C lipos and a new law came out that nothing over 5000mah can be shipped anymore. They said that they would just send me a new 45C 5000mah lipo. I told them I could not do that because I ran all my packs a certain way and they need to havee the same specs so I asked if I could send back all 4 lipos and get the new 45C 5000mah as a trade. I went down 400mah but went up 45C and they said that they could do that. I sent in all my packs and in 2 days I got 4 brand new packs and they really pack a punch. Sorry for the long story but you cannot go wrong with this setup. Also BobHughes is a member here that makes charging/balancing adapters here so you can charge multiple packs at once. I also run the Hobby King lipos to and they work great for budget packs.

Thanks for the suggestions... Would the iCharger 206B be enough or do I really need to go with 208B? At that price range it would be like the Hyperion. Wow so many good feed back but still hard to decide. I just want to do it right.

It only comes wiyh one charge lead and one balance tap adapter. So you will need 3 more charge leads and 3 more balance taps. Why not just get 2 Thunder AC6's???

Just an FYI re: battery choice. Spoke at length with a guy from Castle about several issues, one of which was battery matching if choosing a 5s set up. I asked him about brands and he mentioned that they really like PolyQuest PQ5050 35c as a good affordable lipo. He sent me to cheapbatterypacks.com but you can find them elsewhere as well. Just thought I'd throw that out there as I think I'm going to get the 2s & 3s to make my 5s set up.

Venom will stand behind that battery for a year with less than a 2 week turn around on warranty for the lipo battery I sent in. I sent 2 batteries to smc over a month ago and I'm still waiting to hear back on the status and I emailed them a week ago. THey need to step it up if they don't want me to abandon them for venom because of the customer service.
What model and specs is the new Venom charger?

Ugh, another rebranded chinese esc with the price jacked up 200%- dont waste your money kids.

PQ batts are very tastey indeed- pretty much anything from www.rclipos.com will be awesome as they only sell topend lipos worth there price, unlike some I could mention..

Looks great bro. Just one question, why didn't you get all the same mah packs so you could run 4s, 5s, and 6s setups. I have the same setup as you except they are the new 45C one's. I went with 2 2s 5000mah and 2 3s 5000mah. Your ride is going to really move now with those lipos. And the best part is the 5C charge rate. Your looking at 20 minutes max to fully charge. Great stuff.

Yes. 30 amps max. the new one's i have can be at 6C. They are real good lipos that will last for hunfreds of cycles. At around 130$ for one 3s, it better be worth it. I spent almost 500$ just on 4 lipos.

Nice stuff Charlie, be forewarned that the CC pinions are not up to par. I was forewarned myself but still got that exact pinion because there doesn't seem to be any other manu. making 28~ ^ tooth pinions.

Nevertheless, Robinson Racing 32P pinion gears are a solid option.

Terry, good question... I didn't even think of running 5s at all. How does the 5s compare in speed with the other 2 setup? My original thought was just getting 2 of the same lipo in the 2s and 3s. The 3s 5500 was on sale and I just check allerc, they don't have the 2s in the 5500. Also my friend got his new HPI salvage HP and he wanted the 2s 6500. I figured I get the same as him so I can compare the 2 trucks.

It took me while to figure what to get and in the end I figure to spend the $$ to get what going to last. I will do runs with the factory gear setup and then I'm going to change to the 28t Pinion and Traxxas Spur gear 65T to get this EMBL over 65MPH

Here is a picture of my friend HPI. He hasn't even run it once yet and already did lots of mods such as the CF extended...

5s is the sweet spot for every truck I drive. This includes my savage flux, my 2 rc8t truggies, my erevo, and my revo 3.3 conversion. 4s got to be a little slow after a while and 6s was breaking way to many parts. 5s was the ticket and works great to get the best of both worlds. Maybe you can exchange 2 of them. I'm sure they will cause I have done it myself. I think if you do that now in the end you will be much happier cause you have many more options to run them.

Is that your flux or your buddies. I thought about getting some CF plates as well but after buying the TCS 5mm plates for 20$ bucks, I was happy. Looks great tho.

Agreed on the 5s- 50 mph on 20/65 gears, no heat issues & haven't broken anything yet- just the body is a rag now.

Thanks for the heads up... so your CC pinion didn't last? What tooth pinion did you get from Robinson Racing? Dag, I been doing lots of returns lately but I guess its better to get the right stuff.
