    My Bullet

    Hello Guys,

Well, the other day I saw on eBay an auction for a Bullet and I won it for $27 plus shipping...

Needs some love, but I think I'll be able to restore it, or at least I'll try my best... I also got a stick radio, an XL-1 ESC and a tranny from a TRX-1...

As far as I could see, the parts for the Bullet are pretty hard to get, will see how much I can restore it...

    Hope you like it...

    Daniel

Yeah was watching that one, almost bid but didn't.

I thought of you when I seen it end. And to no surprise you did buy it! (I think you got a small addiction going on )

IMO not a bad deal at all. Heck some if not most of this stuff is becoming obsolete man.

Yeah, I got a small addiction! I like to build these trucks more than driving them, and lately I got bored of the new ones, so I went back to the oldies and learnt a lot about them...

To be honest with you, I thought it would cost me more, I bid $60 as my final offer and I was happy when I paid $27... International shipping was $40 though...

Hope it arrives soon and well, so I can start working on it...

Darn,I was drooling over that one myself but didn't have enough in our Paypal account to bid so I let is slide.

But its nice to know it went to a good home!!

I have a Bullet manual if you need any specs or measurements. And I have a fair supply of spare parts[new and used] so let me know if you need some parts.

And before anybody asks,No,I don't have a stock body! But I'm still looking.

The parts usually aren't terribly hard to find for the Bullet, but usually you'll have to buy a parts lot/parts car to get them.

The hardest part will definitely be finding a body...I got lucky with the two I have, both came from forum members here several years ago.

I'm not too worried about the body, if I don't have one, that's fine with me... @cooleocool: I remember, from Joshua right? Where is he?

    Thank guys!

Yeah, I got an unpainted body from him.

The other came from another member here who had bought a couple on eBay and gave me one for my mother's Bullet. It was in well-used condition when I got it, but I was able to patch it up and make it look respectable.

I got the Bullet today, it's pretty nice, no scratches at all on the chassis and on the a-arms... But, there are several parts missing, hope I can get them all...

Is it too much to ask if you can scan all the manual for me? Or, if not, can you make a paper copy for me and send it to me? I'm willing to pay for the copies and the international shipping.

    Thanks!

I think I have a copy of mine scanned into one of my computers. I will have to check and get back with you... send me a PM to remind me to check if I haven't gotten back to you in a day or so.

Oh, great! I really appreciate it! I'll send you my email address on a PM....

The truck is pretty much assembled but there are a few things that I don't get, such as the outside gears on the tranny... There are a few good pictures on the Internet but as I'm missing a few parts right there, I want to see how many of them are missing...

Hey Guys, a short question why the upper fiberglass chassis on my Bullet doesn't have the hole for the servo like in this picture?

Is a different new model? Did it come with an electronic ESC?

Yeah I seen one with the ESC with no servo hole. You see the little rectangle holes on your upper chassis that are in the rear? Thats where a thick "zip tie" goes through, holding the ESC down. I'm trying to find a pic I seen before of the ESC model.
Yours must be a little later model I suspect.

lol! You helped a poor college student by giving him a vintage body to restore for his mother for mothers day... you should have paid me for the satisfaction that you got from doing such a good deed!

Hey Todd, thanks for letting me know about that! I'll put up a list of things I couldn't find and let you know in the next few days...

Well, the Bullet is officially disassembled...

I had the chance to get a complete set of stock rims/tires this week, but I'm going to use something a little different for them, you can see the rear rims on the picture... I know some of you will say: "it's not original" but I like the rims white instead of chrome... I can chrome them anytime if I want to leave them stock...

And, I'll start the whitening process this week if I have the time... PS: Marv, I'll send you the list with the parts I need the next few days...

Got some parts today... The knock-offs, these are so hard to find!

And the suspension pin set... The ones that came with the Bullet are good, but I prefer to install new ones...

Thank you so much Dave for these parts! I'll appreciate you took the time to send me all the parts!

    Happy Holidays!!!

Guys, what do you think of this motor?

    http://cgi.ebay.com/RC4WD-540-Crawle...item2c57f470b1

The motor is cheap, the shipping is cheap to my country, I guess it could work for a shelf queen right?

Any bad things I should know of? I don't know much about motors...

Short update, I had all the aluminum parts anodized in gold again as it was a little faded... The chassis too, but I forgot to take a pictures of it... I think I already said this, but the chassis was mint, not even one scratch on it...

    Motor mount...

    Front shock tower...

    Rear shock tower...

    Rear chassis mount...

    Shocks....

    And, the XL-1 heat sinks...

My camera is acting funny lately, it's adding a touch of red/pink to some areas...

And, I'm still whitening the plastic parts, so, I'll try to update this project next weekend...

    Hope you like it...

    Daniel.

Now those are some sweet looking parts Daniel! I would never have thought to have the heat sinks anodized too. Fantastic idea!

Now I'm dieing to see how this project will look when its finished. With the level of detail you are putting into it, I have a funny feeling you will end up with the best looking Bullet around.

It's almost there, just a few more hours and the white plastics will be ready...

    From this:

    To this:

The tranny case is too white and made of different kind of plastic, hasn't changed a bit with the hydrogen peroxide and I won't be able to match it's color with the other parts...

This is how the Bullet is looking today...

I'm missing some screws, so, that's why it's not finished yet... They should be here soon, I bought several packages of each size so I won't have any delays in this and the other projects...

    Hope you like it...

Well, I have some bad news, it looks like something went wrong with the anodization process and the gold color on all the parts is fading away after three weeks... I'll put some pictures tonight...

I talked to the shop that did the anodization process and they told me that the process depends on the aluminum type... They told me that as they didn't know the aluminum type, they did the standard anodization process, but it looks like it wasn't the right one for this type of aluminum....

Today, I sent all the parts back to them and they will try a classic anodization process and the will keep the parts for a few weeks to see if the fade away again...

So, this project will be delayed for a few weeks... Hope this time they do it right and I can finish the Bullet...

Well, I a few months ago I discovered why the gold color faded away and it was my fault... Looks like I didn't use enough water to clean the parts from the hydrogen peroxide and that remove the gold color... It's very strange but I hapened to me twice with these parts, so, now I learned my lesson... Tomorrow, the parts are coming back from the store for the third time and I'll try to finish the Bullet soon... And, guess what, look what I've found and it's coming here in two weeks...

Pictures can be tricky but it looks very nice for $20 plus shipping...

    I'm so happy about this...

What?? You mean no blown out rear mounting hole? Or torn and cracked spoiler?
Isn't that how most of the Bullet bodies are?

That one looks to be in super shape Daniel

If it doesn't arrive safely,I'll help ya track down every Postie between your address and the seller's. Then we can give all of them an Atomic Wedgie.

I'm kidding of course but it would be funny to see fifty or sixty Posties with their underwear pulled up over their headsMy sister-in-law would kick me for saying that, she works for Canada Post.

    Hey Daniel,
I was going to shoot you a PM but to save time I'll ask here. Do you have an extra pair of decent Bullet rear rims and tires?

I've got new rims with excellent used tires for the front of my Bullet restoration but no rear rims. And my brand new, never been used rear tires are starting to crack badly when I flex the sidewalls.
