    "rules" of lipos

Someone fill me in on the "rules" please, because i know lipos can be dangerous. I want to make sure i am charging them correctly.

I will be using a Duratrax 230, and i am going to also purchase a lipo balancer.

    Thanks

Charge with a charger that has a dedicated lipo charging mode (with a balancer)
Charge in a well ventilated area and never leave the charger unattended
Use the correct rated batteries for your motor
Lipo should not get hot when in use
Let pack cool down before recharging (15 minutes or so)
Store at 50% full (3.85v / cell) when not in use
Dont discharge below 3.5v / cell for long lifespan
Aim to use 80% of a packs capacity when discharging
Aim to add 80% of a packs capacity when charging

    Cheers

when you talk about storing LiPO's. How long are you talking about. I like to have one or two charged up just in case i want to roll.

Packs should never be left empty or fully charged, you risk damage to the cells

    Store them at 50%
    Charge them before use
    Use them
Charge / Discharge them to 50% before storage

What lipos do you run? For bashing are you guys using hard cased? also what are you doing for water proofing, since rest of the truck is WP!

I ordered a Venom 3s 11.1V, but then someone showed me these!

    ******* 5000mAh 3S 20C Lipo Pack for $26.31 each

Can not beat the price, all you have to do is solder on your preferred connector!

I just picked up 4 of the ******* packs to run in my new truggy and they seem to be quality packs, plus you just can't beat the price. And they were at my door in 3 days.

i Just got 8 of the 5200 2c Hard case for under $200 and i already had one, I love them and have never had a problem out of them, cheap to! Also have a 5000 3c and man that thing make my slash ride out. Now tell me that one of the expensive $200 batteries are gonna be better than 8 of these

I believe you get what you pay for when you buy R/C batteries. The *******/***** packs have many fans because of their low price but I do not believe the packs last has long or are they constantly good packs due to lack of quality control. Many of the *******/***** packs do not fit without some modifications to the battery tray as well. IMO you are much better off with the Venom pack you already ordered.

    I don't know of a 5200mAh/2S pack that sells for $200.

Sounds to me like he was tyrng to compare his 8 batteries to one "expensive $200" battery.

I Have to agree with Jakey I dont know of any 5200 mah packs that sell for $200

I was not in any way questioning his purchase decision of 8, "cheap" packs, however I was and still am questioning a $200, 5200mah/2S pack. I want to look one up, I want to see it.

    No problem.

I have read online here and other forums about $200 packs and I believe it just keeps getting repeated as I have yet to see a 5200/2S (or similar) $200 pack.

well no matter what i will stick with the ******* packs, you get you one battery and i get my 2 or three and when your buying another battery down the road i will still be running on my three. Not saying that the expensive batteries arent better just not that much better to be spending 3 to 4 times as much, Im not looking to start anything. And i have not read anywhere of anyone having a problem with ******* lipos

IMO the one quality pack will out last your two bargain packs and you will be buying replacements before I will be. I could also post several links showing you people who have had issues but like you said "well no matter what i will stick with the ******* packs" so there really is no point in doing so.

IMO bash with cheap packs and race with the high priced packs, if your trashing your truck then there is no point in taking a chance in destroying high priced batteries IMO. Others might not care but this is just what I do.

You can stick with your expensive 1:1 car (insert favorite brand) and I'll stay with my Yugo. I can buy three cheap Yugos for the price of one standard-priced, more expensive car and any performance differences are just not that much better to be spending 3 to 4 times as much.
OK, enough joking to make a point.

My original posts in this thread were intended only to question the validity of $200, 5200mAh/2S packs. No one has linked or pointed to any, no surprises there.

    1. The packs you linked are not $175, but in fact are selling for $139.95, which is not even close to $200.

    2. Again, I am not beating up on "less expensive" packs, I am just questioning the $200 price point.

    3. I have tested thousands of dollars worth of LiPo packs, including ******* and more expensivbe ones.

    Again, sells for $144.99.

Many times the list price and actual selling price are so far removed from each other as to be completely insignificant.

The second one sells for $119.99.

I don't care if they list for $10,000, what is important is how much they normally sell for.
