I've been wondering that myself. I noticed my new Slash 4x4 came with the 2218x.

2218x is stock in the spartan and has a temp sensor. Other than that, they're identical.

Will the 2218x work in a E-Maxx application due to its short antenna wire, compared to the original long AM antenna?

What is the purpose/function of the temp sensor?

Spoke to Traxxas and as Wesley G stated they are identical but the 2218x has the addition of the temp sensor (side top connector) that is use on the Spartan boat, cuts the power down to 25% when it detects that the motor has gone past its temp set limit.

By the way, the length of the antenna on the 2218x is not an issue with the new 2.4 systems, it does not even have to be sticking out of the body; However, the wire can not be damage (cut) or you will drastically affect the rage.
