I would say a good percentage of Bandits end up getting turned into Rustlers, that would be my plan.

Its super easy to turn it into a stamede or a rustler. Obviously easier to go rustler but still... easy either way and a rustler can be a very capable off road truck with the suspension set tall and some bigger tires/wheels. Id start with that, then if you find you want it to be even more trucky turn it into a stampede.

To turn it into a rustler you'll need the following:
    Front and rear arms
    Front castor blocks
Front suspension pins (many people don't realize you need this part)
    Rear drive shafts
All the camber and steering links
Body mount (front only for a rustler but get the slash set as it will come in handy if you want to go stampede later)
    Body
    Wheels/tires
    Front and rear wheel hexs.

Thats it. All relatively cheap parts other than the body and the wheels and tires. But those are things that are fun to customize anyway. If your bandit parts aren't beat up bad (wheels/tires and body along with the rest of the parts) you can list them for sale on the market place and get some of your money back.

If you're going to go with the conversion you may as well go with the wide mod. I am going to convert my Bandit and am just starting with the wide conversion, I'm doing the 4x4 Stampede arm Mod.

I just got back into this hobby after stopping in 1992. Does any think the bandit would be a good car to start getting back into the race scene. I would like to know if there is any mods i can do to make it a better racer. Thanks a lot for your time.

I am in the process of building a speed Bandit. I have a Pede vxl and a Slash vxl, I just wanted a pure speed machine. I am using the Slash rear arms and the HD driveshafts. It is coming together quite well.
Was an xl-5, now its vxl-ent!

Buy the protrac kit and get the HD Driveshafts. Done and done.
