Gearing options for bigger tires on a MERV.

I just put a new set of PL Dirt Hawgs with dish wheels on my MERV and now the bottom end acceleration is sluggish with stock gearing. I'm looking for a little more punch on bottom end. Should I change my pinion or spur? If so what would be a good gearing choice? It's mostly used for on/off throttle action with some jumping and a speed run here or there. Any help is appreciated.

Truck dirt hawgs or buggy rear dirt hawgs?
What gearing do you have now?
What motor are you running? with which ESC?
    What batteries do you have?
Are you running them in parallel or series or singles?
Whatever it is I just typed... could be wrong.

They are buggy rears, running box stock gearing at 23/50, stock VXL motor and esc, and Traxxas Powercell batteries in singles, parallel and series at times. Mostly singles.

Sluggish when running in parallel too?
In my opinion, the stock packs do not provide what the power system needs.

You could go down to the stock 16 tooth pinion for the mini Summit....
but then you would lose a lot of top end.
    Maybe try a 19-20 tooth??

I am running at 23/55. I am running with about 3.5inch wheels in diameter. I have a question, if I put on a 50tooth spur will I get more torque or speed? And if I get more torque will it increase temp of motor?

If you want more torque put a 55 spur. And 23 piņon is fine for ur set up u need lipo buddy 2s or 3s
    Rustler Vxl Spc lipo 3s

I have the VXL merv with PL Dirt Hawg rear buggies just like you stoke88. I'm running 2s lipo and 21/50 is a little sluggish so I went to 19/50 and it was quite a bit better. I'll probably stick with this gearing for a while for bashing and when I feel like doing some speed runs I'll use a 3s lipo. By the way the motor and esc ran pretty cool with both of those different gears I tried out.

Bigger pinion = more top end less torque...possible motor over temp. Bigger spur = more torque, less top end. Apply this in opposite manner to achieve opposite results. Check your manual, it has a gear chart near the back. The higher the final drive ratio, the more torque you'll get. The smaller the final output gear the faster it will be with the motor working harder to get there.
