    mossie his Merv (the netherlands)

time to start a topic by myself instead of filling others their topic with my BLA BLA

Never had a Rc in my life utill this year 2012
Because of an accident on which i broke stuff and had many other things and being into churgery 2 times for
that , i can not walk very well because i got a f-up knee.

so 1 time i was with my m8 who has Rc as a hobby for many years and drove with his Ken block 1;16
i enjoyed that so much that i searched many stuff on internet and watch many you tube movies about RC and how and what.
Then begin 20102 the docter told me after taken x rays from my leg i need to get out more for fresh air and movement and thought you know what i am gonna buy an RC.

so bought the E revo vxl and the shop owner made a special discount for it with a whole pakkage

    1 lipo 3s
    2 nihim stock batterys
    better Nihim Lipo charger
    extra set led lights
    1 extra set axle arms
    1 set axle carriers

also the man told me if ya gonna ride it hard on 3s then go for steel driveshafts because the stock ones will
    break after a while.

so the first week i bought it it was like this

    stock out of the box

after two weeks i did hit a curb with 30 mph

    and broke a front arm

then first mod was a heat sink on motor

    dry fit

then did remove the chrome where the tires are gonna be glued on
was a very intense job and not funny to do and taking a long time to do this
with a hobby knife and a little screwdriver

after a couple of hours )done'

    and ready

then did read much about the balloon stuff on tires and taping
    so decided to tape them

all taped and ready to get on

    glue time

    stock wheels and rims off

old tires meet the new ones

    thats it for now

did run with the new ones this morning and i think their awesome
much more stable and very awesome turning and sliding with them

did have an crach because i run it at a dead end road and when the road ends there is a circle where you can make a beautifull u turn
when i was comming full speed to the end on the road was a piece of wood from a tree which i did not see
ran over it and flipped about 10 times on roef and on the side.
when i walked to the Merv had a bad feeling and thought 4 sure something did break again
but when i turned it over all parts seems to be good.
at first i thought GREAT untill i looked at the back rims PFFFFFF not amused at all

1 day old and this is how they look now
did came in yesterday and mounted them last night

next mods will be rpm arms and t bone skid plates

i run with stock spur stock motor and speed pinion 23t
do run it on 3s lipo and like to do speedruns on hard surface and now and then take it on sand or grass
but most of the times speed is what i like

    2 vids of my runs

i know compaired to 90% of the guys and girls here its rookie stuff
but i will do more mods evry now and then

thx for reading this guys and girls of this wonderfull forum

honestly i was sitting behind my bench last evening with the wheel adapters and thought HUH??

    WHAT I DIT WAS THIS!!

i mounted the rims on the orginal 6side wheel adapter which you see if your put of the original wheel from tRAXXAS

    theN

did take the smallest thing what was in the set

and mounted it on the outside of the rim under the nut

THE ONLY THING I DONT GET KNOW !!! is

that the Nylon from the nut is not covered by all the thread

so did i mounted it wrong

Mossie, I think the HPI spacers you put in the wheels need to be inserted from the other side (inside of the wheel).

Cobra is rite. All you do it put it on the inside of the wheel and then mount it normal. It should pop the adapter into the back of the wheel for good once its tightened down for a run or 2.

What a shame about that rear wheel!! After all that time waiting... you can probably smooth it out though with a sharp knife.

Great work taking all the chrome off the inside of the wheel to make better contact. I would have probably used sand paper to save some time, but I've never tried it so I have no idea if that would work.

    Looking forward to motor/esc upgrades

Nice to share all the info in your own thread. Very helpful for the less experienced readers!

I got the same wheels, only in black. You should have seen that the adapters belong on the inside of the wheel, because there is a spot in there where the larger part of the ring nicely fits in. The chrome ones with the Speed Hawgs look great.

I just came back from the second pack with the new wheels and the Road Rage II tires on them. Nice set. Noticed the screw of on of the turnbuckles came lose so I lost a part of the right steering. Next time a little Loctite there should prevent that problem.

thx for the mounting guide guys !!! gonna look into it right now and mount it the correct way!

thx for this 4 real guys

@ korn -> gonna do that now -> OHHHH i feel a little stupid and learning from this better ask it right away at you guys next time

@Krall -> i did use sandpaper on the end but at first you must damage the layer with a screwdriver or knife
then when there are little spots left on it you can sandpaper that (work superb)
Thx to you a couple of weeks ago i got these rims , told you then whooooo i like them and gonna get me some
gonna give it a try with the knife and follow you advise on the damage part

@peter -> i like the black ones the most but bee racing told me that HPi would not make those wheel any longer and there for
they could not deleliver them anymore.
so i had the choise full chrome or black chrome and did black chrome for my Merv
i would have taken black if they (bee racing could get them for me)
HAHAHAHA i did buy Locktide also this weekend ! at a store called Brezan (the blue locktide)
my uncle is flying a rc helicopter and i showed him the merv and we start talking and he advised me to put
on some screws locktide (for example the screw on the pinion) so i bought locktide for screws this weekend also

in the beginning of rc racing 2 mths ago i thought PFFFFFFF easy stuff and i can do that but along the way
i begin to see thats there are many things you must learn about it.

real superB this forum with the guys like Shimmy , korn , Krall , Peter , cobra and many many others
who know much about this rc world and will help an Noob , rookie

i am glad i found ths forum and meeting you guys

Btw !!!!! did already a search on BB stuff -> most of thats e revo.net guy from the east block and many tuts from Squirell of rc toyz
from what i getting is that when go for a more and bigger motor you at least do 4600 kv
but i see 5700 kv and much Castle stuff pas along

still not getting it to well -> you need a tenbold mount and a good esc to go BB
but seeing a small pinion -> will make you hit the reciever box and cut it
also see that lots of peep use a other body (slipstream with air vents to prevent heat)

still must learn a lot about BB stuff
and for now the stock will do (motor and esc) but i run 3s so its just a matter of time on frying the esc

maybe i am gonna BB this summer (sept 2012)
for now !!! all stuff is pretty f uped at the moment because of my illness and not able to walk good
i might lose my job this week because in about 3 days i must show up at my work to talkj with my boss and a guy from
Arbo to talk how about to go on (been not able to work for 1 yar and a half now)
so might lose my job this week ! and always made lots of money being a car mechanic in garage
but dont think i can do this job again !!!

thats why i was saying -> for now i stop with the mods and other stuff 4 a while

Going bb isnt too complicated. You dont need the tenbol mount. You can get the motor mount and motor plate for a brushed merv and a 1/10 brushless motor will mount rite up to it. Thats what i did. And with stock gearing i didnt have to cut my RX box at all.

    @peter -> learning every minute
and did follow your advise and the other a min ago with the rims mount and guess what
the Nylon is filled into the Nut!!!! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO

@Korn -> i will get into with this in aug/sept this year with you guys then i am planning to go do BB
and will folow the BB topic from now on !!! HAHAHAHAHA

for the next few months i hope the stock ecs and motor will hold up !!!
i find it pretty fast already with 3s lipo but heyyyyy i am just starting this

i do know that when i get used to this i wanna go harder and faster (i know that allready) because i like speed.

but gonna enjoy the Merv from now on and make more mods later
first gonna do rpm arms and skidplates T bone stuff

Thx agian for you wondertfull and possitive reactions on my topic guys

it just makes me smile and YOU ROCK

The motor is going to hold up. The ESC might not. If it doesnt last then you can upgrade the ESC then later down the road you can get the BB motor.

HMMMM seems to be not so easy with not doing a mod for a while

did read alot about shimm your diffs the last couple of days and see a couple of movies
    with wrecked diffs.
also did read Jimmie his thread about the diffs and decided to go for shimmed diffs also

so ordered 2 set at Towerhobbies

also i discovered a real strange thing !!! at the right rear wheel wivh got a lot of movement at the axle carrier and the steel bal since the last crash this sunday
all other three wheel dont have that much movement on it.
maybe its time to get better axxle carriers and better steelbals.

RPM ???????? or go for alu ?????? did see that alu stuff also breaks hotracing ones for example

would be nice to get some advise from the ace drivers about this and what to do

remember i like to speedrun and drive with 3s so weight is important to me

    Mossie,

First make sure the stock plastic axle retaining piece didn't jump out. Those little guys seem to pop out easily.

My experience was....... got tired of the stock play, even tried replacing a couple with the stock piece, helped a little but still had a bunch of play.

Went rpm axle carriers next thinking hey their a arms are awesome, keep the money in the US etc. Not pleased with my choice of the rpm. Very detailed in my installation, seemed to eliminate play but managed to pop the pillow balls out in about 15 minutes of normal driving. bummer

I went HR al against most of the recommendations here. I wanted a replacement quick, I'm pleased so far with the HR units. Have stood up to our typical bashing and runs and took the play out of the wheels.

The general recommendation here though seems to be the gpm axle carriers.

HR or GPM are both good choices for knuckles. RPM is known for the popped out pivot ball problems.

since last friday when i drove it i got a real insane movement on the left rear wheel on the axle carriers and steel balls
it got so bad that the wheel is standing 45 degrees on the car and when i pull up with the merv it comes straight

so i searched the whole friday and most of the weekend at HR or GMP but they are at every shop
not in stock untill end april or late may.

try to call and email several traxxas rc shops in the netherl;ands saturday but all with the same answer
    as the online shops.
Rpm and itegy is not the problem and are in stock but dont want them

so if anyone know were to get them before the end of the month i would be pleased

also got a infrared temp gun from my uncle yesterday from 3m so gonna monitor the stuff when running 3s

still waiting for my 2 sets of shims too who left Towerhobbies this friday !!!!!

problem is that i can drive it , but when i do a speedrun and getting to the end of the road i release my throttle
and the merv is pulling to one side (the right) as soon as i release the throttle because when there is no force on the wheel by the shafts
its start to stand in a 45 degree angle (the wheel) if i do a little throttle then again i start to run straight again

this is very anoying because its almost likme fighting rthe whole time to keep a straight line
is looks like a steering and keep on the road contest more then fun drivin and speedrunning

so i need the new ones ASAP because waiting till the end of the month is too long for me
