Just thinking out loud here...

He Who Dies With the Most Toys Wins.
3rd channel HERE WE COME.
I was thinking of this as well.
Jeremy
That will look absolutely halarious!!!! I cannot wait until someone does it a posts a video!
MERV, Summit, Slash (4x4), 'Pede 4x4
3rd channel on the Tqi is the TransBrake (or whatever traxxas is calling it)

Well, 4th of 5th, any available channel... There are a few parachutes for RCs, the problem is, how to deploy it...
First, I was thinking some kind of spring mechanism, then, some kind of small turbine, or, just air from the front...
He Who Dies With the Most Toys Wins.
maybe a tube through the body connecting to the front of the chute holder? with a servo that opens a little door at the front of the tube
I think that FUNNY CAR's receiver can't use the 3th & 4th channel.
Because the transmiter use the Burnout, Staging, and Race Modes.
and the Lunch Control. So the receiver's 3th and 4th channel already cut off.
The radio is another problem, you can use a standard TQ 2.4 Link radio and problem solved... I don't even care about the fancy new radio, those options are worth if you only buy the drag tree... So, ideas on how to install a parachute?
He Who Dies With the Most Toys Wins.
Couldn't you wire a servo splitter to the esc/reciever wires going to a servo, so when the esc was told to brake by the rx, the servo would operate, pulling a pin and dropping the chute into the wind? Maybe the esc/reciever wouldn't work with something like that, I haven't really experimented much.
I think a parachute would be great But I don't know how you could deploy it. It sure would look cool![]()
I wanted to put a really cool signature but I ran
That is about the same setup the jet guys use in their planes. Linkage will be the most work. Especially since the servo will move with application of throttle and brake, if you run a y-harness as suggested.
I know they make parachute drop modules for planes you probably could get one of those and do a little modding and make it work, if there is a spare channel.

Here is my set up for my 1/4 scale funny car. Same thing would work on a smaller scale.

Very nice! Thank you for the pics!

He Who Dies With the Most Toys Wins.
Yeah that system would work just fine for smaller scale and is pretty reilable too
Thanks for contributing Otime, very cool setup. I wonder if my esc/parachute servo with a Y harness idea would work...
Onetime do you have any videos of that thing in action not on here but on youtube, it looks sweet I want to see the chute open up

No video on youtube... Here are some pics of me driving it at BIR (Brainerd International Raceway)
Open chute in the last pic

Otimebomb sweet ride hope to see it up there at BIR
Looks great i wonder if you could do that with the traxxas funny car
I wanted to put a really cool signature but I ran
Yeah, I think thats what is being worked out here. First to have a chute gets bragging rights, a patent, and lotsa cash from the sales!
Ya can't polish fertilizer...
Sure you can, no problem.
Here is a video of my friends 1/10 scale car- has dual chutes.

Traxxas should make a top fuel dragster, those are badass. But the funny cars are 2nd best to me.![]()
Man, those chutes are just like the real thing! Very cool!
Jeremy
just the top fuel would have to be nitro just like the real thing. maby a traxxas big block?
aluminum for ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A Parachute would be SICK! I think a micro servo is really the best way to go. That or a real long piece of string. lol.
Im curious about clearence with the body mount hinge system.
Build, Bash, Clean, Repair, Repeat..
i would think that gonna be the only issue with the chutes on the traxxas FC.
either set up as shown would work just fine once tweaked properly, getting them mounted properly is possibly the issue, you would want to have them anchored to the chassis, and the Traxxas FC looks to have a fair bit of stuff going on at the rear.

Did you see what this guy made for his XO-1 (Video and Pics)
http://traxxas.com/forums/showthread...-Parachute-Vid....
the problem is you can not add a parachute to the traxxas funny car with the stock tx/Rx since there is no third channel to add a servo which i found out the hard way. and if you try adding a spektrum reciever to the traxxas esc go luck unless you unlock the esc, i got so fed up with the whole deal i just ended up taking the stock esc out and putting in a tekin rx8 esc with the spektrum sr300.

why could there be somekind of y adapter for the throttle and brake, and when the brake is applied the shut pops out,or is this fisable at all.
this where i placed the pull wire the wire is an rc airplane pull wire very simple to place
scott i'm not sure if that could work or not. But a real funny car keeps the throttle on while pulling the chute. which help out with the car jerking back at a rapid pace. the same goes with on the 1/8 scale so i don't think you would want to add a splitter to that part
Oo... wanna see how this project Turns out.
Build, Bash, Clean, Repair, Repeat..
sorry for the long delay in the project. between work and a needing girlfriend haven't had much time to work on the project. well i finally got the chute installed and the servo going the right direction to release the bag. i can't wait to see how it works out this sunday afternoon. i have tried a couple of chutes and they were a trial and error mostly error so hoping this one will work. if so videos of it will up soon.
