First Traxxas truck and first Traxxas forum post.
This is my Slash 4x4 that I'm gonna turn into a WRC rally car (street and hard gravel).
I'm hoping for many comments and tips!
Original Traxxas Slash 4x4 VXL
All new Alu Traxxas wheel carriers front and rear
Wheel carriers installed
Cooling fan
From the left: 21t - 18t - 13t
MIP X-Duty CVD kit
T-Bone servo protection
T-bone closeup - filled the space between the prop-shaft and the chassis with velcro.
Homemade mudflaps
And now to the transformation...
1/8 GT2 Rally wheels
When new parts arrive, new pics will be posted!
Looks cool. This is something I've been planning to do. What body you gonna use?
Get some rpm arms all the way around, get some LiPo batteriies , one 2s and one 3s I recommend 5800mah.
And your 1/8 th scale tires won't be good on gravel only on road. Unless you planning to switch back and forth.... I would get the proline trenchers or badlands on desperados. They are 2.8"s

Looks cool! Keep us updated.
Thx for the replies.
Im going to use a Subaru impreza body from tamiya 1/8 scale.
Rpm arms is going to be the next uppgrade!
Im still waiting for my 3s lipo.... I live in sweden and all the parts live in the US (mostly)
And the wheels and tires.... Well, primary the truck will run on the streets.
Loss of traction is just fun on a bashing level![]()
I have been looking around the interwebb and this rally mod on the slash seems really rare.
I think that i will rebuild the original shocks..... Hmm not sure.
Try to fit e-revo shocks on. They will look awesome. They aren't expensive either!
i want some erevo shocks too, theyre 10 bucks for 4 on ebay from lumidave
SL4SH Mamba Monster-Rustler Mamba Max 2400kv
E revo shocks?
They need to be shorter and harder. Are They?
Thanks for the help!
Can't wait to show you guys the truck fitted with new body and wheels![]()
even if they are longer as long as they compress far enough is the big issue. you can alsways take it aprt if your rebuilding it anyway and put a piece of nitro fuel tubing inside to limit the up travel. once you get it where you want it at then you simply fill it with your fluid of choice and leave the tubing on there. learned that with my old t-maxx
there's no life like a LOW LIFE!
Drag It!
on my rally conversion i used stock shocks but placed spacers on the shaft to stop it compressing to much. and how well does the tamiya shell fit.

There's a pic of them here:
http://traxxas.com/forums/showthread...On-A-Slash-4x4
Well.. I want it to ride low.. but not to low.. Not very specific but you know
RALLY HEIGHT!
But hey, great tip with the nitro tube! Think i'll go with that!
But to the fluids.. I have absolute no idea what to use and where to get it.
I don't really want to go redneck style and put ordinary brake-fluid or something like that :P
I have spacers on right now but I want lower ride height. And as I said above.. think I'll go with nitro-tubing
And for the Tamiya Impreza body.. I simply don't know. Still waiting for the body to get here. So fingers crossed!
I will post pics of the body as soon as it gets here!
This is the body!

Btw, do you have pics/posts of your rally Slash? Would be fun to see![]()
Here is a pic of one of the shocks with my spacers.
Looks bad but they accually work great, plus I wont hit the chassis when I land after jumping!

i found that using stock shocks worked just fine as you will get a small amount of sag anyway. but you will have to wait and see what is needed for the body you get. i was using the kyosho one. the spacers i used also stopped the body hitting the ground under hard braking. i only have this picture which don't show anything really. i even used a Aston martin body without the need for spacers inside the shocks. i would of had more pictures but me and photo bucket weren't getting on to well when i done mine lol

if you run just on road you could stiffen up the shocks for a really low body but if you try to go off road it will just bounce around to much. i think the wheels i used were jato ones and as you can see they fitted the 1/8th shell well.

The Tbone protection (clear plastic)? Did u make that or buy it? I need that!
The Jato wheels looks perfect for onroad and "offroad"(gravel etc) and they can handle SPEED as my 3s Lipo is on its way. Thanks for the tip! But my GT2 wheels looks very hard and so on, but really they are soft grip tires, perfect for onroad!
So maybe more offroad tires than the Jato ones? But still the 2.8" rim diameter. I'm gonna hit the rc webbshop now and see whats available! Rally rims with offroad tires!
To bad you don't have more pics of your rally truck!
im not really into taking pictures of my cars. and all i really did was make some front and rear body mount extenders that used the original traxxas mounts. and fitted the spacers to the shock shafts. i do have these old pics of the mounts they were the first test ones i made but they worked so well that i never built anything better.

Hey i noticed your post and thought i'd share my rally slash build as well..just started messing w/ ride height this weekend by drilling new mounting hole in my rpm arms, to get it real low...

Usually in rally the cars use belly pans to help with bottoming out and it certainly doesn't hurt our cars..shock stiffness all depends on the type of surface your running on the higher the grip the stiff shock you can run...
Looks good!!
Turns out that the body I was waiting for doesn't exist any more...
And it's nearly impossible to find a nice looking 1/8 rally body... Kyosho has a nice one, but it's out of order...
So.. found a plastic company in Italy.

What do you guys think about this one?
looks awesome!
Your nitro is fat...It ate my Brushless Dust!!!!
I've been searching the internet for weeks. And i found the company deltaplastik and bysm.
Both in italy ofc...
The proline body... I was thinking of it when it was released.
But i would rather have another one.
Found this: http://www.rallyclassics.se/QuattroS1.html (there is also 205 T16 Evo 2) but those are not wide enough :-(
Hey 2Late.
Awesome site! In sweden and all!
Where Im from![]()
BUT... I says 255-260mm wide.. The slash is 296mm.
But if length and wheelbase is correct I think I can fit the wheels in with a sligth negative camber![]()
To bad its not wider!
I live in Italy and they also have an older style European STI body. 53 euro.

next time I am at his store I will post the info.

Right now I'm waiting for my Traxxas 17 hex adapters. So I can fit the Gt2 wheels.
Then I'm going to shorten the width by drilling new holes and cuting the a-arms.
Then buy and put this body on! -> http://www.rallyclassics.se/QsportS1E2.html
Pics to come
Oh, I like that!

Quick update.
I got my wheels mounted.. well three of them. I got my Traxxas 17mm hex adapters today.
Still waiting for my ball bearings for my back wheel. Broke two of them, and I'm blaiming the MIP's..
There is no "pin" that holds the hex.. and the tiny skrew that should hold it brakes everytime. With och without glue..
So.. original driveshafts on right now. I'm going to drill some holes in the MIP's so I can fit the pin back on.
Body and other goodies on it's way!

Here you can see my modified springs, GPM springs on stock shocks.
