I am just curious to know who is running what tyres for their Summits.
Once my Summit is built I will be using it for general bashing around and playing in the nearby woods...nothing exciting in there as it is relatively flat. It has some thick sand and a fair bit of ruts from the rain with exposed tree roots.
It will be intersting to see what tyres you guys are running and what conditions you are bashing your trucks![]()
Rock n Rolla !
Any thoughts on running big joe 40 series...how do they hold up to the brushed DeWalt 14.4V motor?
Rock n Rolla !
Rc4wd mudslingers all the way!
They run great in everything. The best for rocks is probably actually the stock but they tear easily and I don't personally like the looks.
Lock, Stomp, and Steer. No Fear
Those are some seriously huge tyres...they do look good thou.
Rock n Rolla !
Love those tires. This is prob a dumb question but will any of the rc4wd tires fit the stock wheels? Or do they have to be bead locks? Thanks

They will not go on the stock rims different bead style

I just got myself a set of HPI dirt claws and maximizer beadlock rims with 1/2" offset...any thoughts on these?
Any guys taping their tyres here?

RC4WD Rock Crushers here
I've got some Mudslingers as well, but can't seem to find a pic of 'em on the truck.
Rustler 4x4 VXL
I do lots of swamp running and to distribute the weight I run double rubicons on integy extra wide bead locks... Your best bet is to buy by need.... Look at what your doing ( or hope to) and take that route....
Good luck and have fun finding what works best for you..

Main shoes: Stock combo or premount orig. Trenchers on Tech5's.
Much less: TerraPins or Mashers (3.2") on ½-offset Maximizer beadlocks.
Dry conditions; forest floor, rock outcrop/ledge, or piles of fractured rock.

I can only imagine your playground for your truck...unfortunately I live in the burbs. I have a little wooded are behind the house, will have to do for me until I find something more exciting![]()

Another vote for the mudslingers. Awesome tires.![]()
See now for what I do, 'Slingers (at least when new) have not performed admirably, even with the smaller lugs removed.

Addendum: (Sometimes old guys forget.) The difficulties with the Mudslingers may have been due to the wrong ride height or suspension setup choice(s). My experience with them is VERY limited and a sweet spot has not yet been found. Still, my problem with this theory is that the Trenchers (original) do not seem to have needed anything special to make them perform admirably.
Trencher X's might do as well but my experience with them is even more limited. Besides, I know I much prefer the narrowness of the Tech5 wheel (0-offset) than the ½-offset Desperado wheel. This narrows the overall track of the truck, but if you are driving in wooded areas you'll get thru better being that much narrower and having that much better turning radius. Think: (real) Jeep vs. Humvee in the woods.

A good all purpose trail tire are the imex rubicons... Before I doubled up on them I ran singles and they performed well in many places they are truly a jack of all trades master of none.... That flexibility is why I choose those tires to do the double dually.

For the summit double dually I use medium since I don't run foams in my tires. The harder compound holds it shape better.
On my stampede I run soft with inserts because they have better performance...

I sold of my stockers as I found they weren't glued well at all from the factory and were going to wobble bad. I like to bash but this is more for FPV than anything else. Mainly dirt paths, crawling through leaves and smaller mounds of stuff. No serious rock crawling. I will be on roads some though to get places.
I thought I would go with the Trencher and Tech5 wheels like ksb51rl said but I'm curious, should I get the ones pre-mounted or get them separately and do it myself? I'm on a small budget so pre-mount would be cheaper in the end for me but I'm not sure if they'll be glued any better. Any ideas?
A tip that helps with premoumted tires is run a bead of glue around the tire. I pull to "try" and remove tire and run glue around to ensure good solid glue mount to the entire rim.

I went with the non mounted.
The rims did not have vent holes pre drilled.i thought why not try them without
Could always add holes later.
So no venting on the rims or tires, plus no weight added. So the question of the day is how do they do? You be the judge

My Trencher premounts were bought 2nd hand (barely used) and were perfect. Better than the gluing job done later (by others) for a friend's truck.

I went with the premounted Desperado and they seem to be fine. There's a little wobble but I think that's from something else as it seems to be just on the fronts even when I swap out tires.
Check your steering and suspension link ends... Many times as they wear-out the tires wobble... Swap out the tips and/or the ball-ends... Also bearings that are breaking down can create wobble. Less likely but possible is wear and tear on servos... Sometimes they wear down creating play in the steering components...
Good luck...

So, the truck I have is brand new so I'm curious what the source of the wobble is. mdlopez said to check things like bearings and link ends but since it's still new, there should be no wear on it, same for the servos.
If it's the stock hubs, what's a good alternative?
Sorry for bringing up the thread again. I just realized that the Trenchers I bought with the Desperados are way to wide for what I need. I have a Tonka body installed and when the truck is braking, I won't be able to turn without severe tire rub. I just installed the tires haven't run the tires at all. I wish I could return them but am looking to possibly use the Trenchers on Mach 5 wheels or possibly the Badlands as they are narrower. Just too many choices!
