Feel great. I gave my nephew the second half of that firestone, and that was the perfect stopping point. Left at about 12. And you?
Nice, me too. I was in bed at 12. I saw that dirt pile at the pipe field that you mentioned would be the spot for an RC track. I'm thinking that you and me need to get a track set up for Thanksgiving weekend. You in? Is there a tractor available?
I Wanna Go Fast!
That would be cool. I could haul my tractor over. Maybe we could get the others (Chris, Daniel, Joseph) to help also. Design work would probably take the longest.
Maybe I missed it, I know it is 4 3/4" long but how much length does that piece of metal add to the chassis? As in, how much did it extend the wheelbase?

The SC8 wheelbase is between 14.75 and 15 inches. My Mk.3 build has a spot-on 15" wheelbase; the Slash 2wd has a 13.2" wheelbase, so it adds just under 2 inches.

This thing looks awesome, I might have to pick up another slash and build one. Looks like a fun basher.

No work tomorrow, maybe I get the paint and electronics done?????
I think I'm going for this updated Ford Rough Riders paint scheme.

Nice build! I might do this with my 1/8 powered slash but with a lcg chassis.
Jeremy
Come on snicklefritz I know you have been up to something you are way too quiet
I did my paint prep Friday night and got the paint done yesterday. I installed the servo, esc, and receiver yesterday as well. Today was the maiden voyage and it was fun. I didn't drive it for very long but I can tell this truck is going to be fun!
The front Proline shocks didn't come in so I only installed the rear as of now. Here's the list of goodies to date:
-SC8 body
-extended Traxxas Slash chassis
-Proline Titus 2.2 beadlock wheels
-Axial 2.2 Ripsaw tires
-Vanquish aluminum arms
-Proline Powerstroke rear shocks, 45w oil
-RPM rear skidplate
-FLM aluminum tranny
-32p gears
-Traxxas 4x4 driveshafts
-Lunsford titanium hinge pins
-RPM/stock front bumper combo
-Traxxas aluminum caster blocks
-RPM front and rear shock towers
-Traxxas VXL system
-Traxxas stock servo

Paint looks great! Very nice.
Jeremy
If you took a picture of it next to a stock sized Slash would be cool. Nice work, you made this look pretty easy.
I Wanna Go Fast!
Very nice work snicklefritz. It came out very nice. Sits nice and low. Mine is a little taller (wider offset on wheels maybe). looks like it pulls nice and hard. What gearing is in it now?
This buid of yours is fantastic..... Excellent job on the paint scheme..... And thank you for sharing this project with us
How did you do the red line in the paint scheme? mask, decal or ???
Thanks
PS... Also nice job on the video

Awesome build man, looks like a nice bash spot too. Thanks for the vid.

I'll see if I can get a pic tomorrow. And the K.I.S.S. principle was used for this project. If you want to see a real "build", check out Dr. Isotope's slash8. The link is on the first page of this thread.
The red stripe is paint. First I drew the stripe on the outside of the body with a sharpie then I used 1/8" masking tape to outline it on the inside then used liquid mask to cover the red part. This technique of mixing liquid mask and masking tape gave mixed results. When I peeled off the liquid mask the masking tape wanted to come with it. I ended up with some bleeding of the red because of this. The order of applying colors was: blue (cab), black (roll cage), silver (bed panels), red (stripe), white (hood), chrome (grill), black (grill), smoke (tinted side windows, head and tail lights).
Thanks for the compliments! I plan on making a video on Friday if it doesn't rain here. For that first video I really only drove it for about 10 mins (I didn't even roll it on it's lid yet). That's why I reused the same clips multiple times. I ordered a tripod so I won't have to put my camera on the ground anymore. That's asking for trouble. That spot I was driving at has some big jumps, tracks, and wild terrain that should provide some good action. I can't wait to drive this again! Oh, and my Proline front shocks showed up today so I can finish this truck off.

Just curious... Did you air brush, rattle can or paint brush?
"enjoy your ride"
Dennis
It was all rattle can, most colors were Tamiya but some were Pactra.

Attn dr. Isotope: I thought I made the first stretched slash with an 1/8 scale associated body, but I am much mistaken. I saw part of your build thread and your LCG slash 8 is very nicely done. It is a slippery slope, as you go bigger, it becomes the norm and you want to go even bigger. Again, nice work. So what is the next step?
I'm exceedingly happy with the current mid-motor layout, but I'm already seeing room for improvement. It seems that with each version I build, less store-bought parts appear, and more hand-made parts make their way onto the truck. I'm mulling over ideas for the Mk.4, but it tends to be about 6 months between rebuilds, so I've got awhile to think about it.
Still wishing someone-- ANYONE-- would make an aftermarket 1/8th SCT shell.

Come on Proline. Or JC. Give us bodies to buy!
P.S. Isotope, you thinking about the next rebuild being 4wd???? You're already mid-motor so maybe that's the next step.
P.S.S. We're all in SoCal, let's get these trucks together.

I Wanna Go Fast!
Are there other rally style bodies available that would fit this size chassis?
How tall are the tires that youre using?
Jeremy
They're about 5 1/4" tall.
I Wanna Go Fast!
Can you take a pic with the stock wheels and tires on it?
Jeremy
I don't have the BFG's that came with the truck, but these are 2.2/3.0 Calibers.
And here it is next to a Slash 4x4

Thanks for the pics!

Nice job, that looks great.
I'm hoping I can get this thing cleaned up tomorrow (my day off) and throw a new CC system in it. I also have to get that 4x4 slash up and running, clean up my Wraith to get ready for some G6 competition, and some honeydew stuff. I don't know if there's enough time in the day? Maybe Home Depot, Bed, Bath & Beyond? I don't know if there's enough time!
I Wanna Go Fast!
It's so good! Once it hits your lips!
I did a quick test run with a new CC SV2 esc and 4 pole 4600 and boy is it fast. Me likey.
I Wanna Go Fast!
Does it seem a lot faster than the traxxas system? Maybe you may have a problem with throttle control as well?
