depends on if all you want is speed runs (bb castle) or do you bash off road and care about handling(sb neu 1110)?

kinda looking for something thats a little bit of both...but more speed runs if i had to make a decision. looking for about 70-80 mph

    what about this one? http://www.castlecreations.com/produ...-race-pro.html

just realized that motor.esc set up is a fortune... what are some cheaper (less than $250) options..

can i keep the stock esc?

70-80 is a little tough to do look at my 2 build threads
kv is if you have a 4000kv motor with one volt will turn 4000 rpm so 11.1 volts with a 4000kv motor turns 44,400 rpm http://traxxas.com/forums/showthread...kv-vs-1112-1-y and http://traxxas.com/forums/showthread...00kv-big-block

You will need to change out the ESC.
The stock motor is too much for the stock ESC...
Whatever it is I just typed... could be wrong.

70-80mph is instant vaporization for these little guys when they hit something.

Have you ever driven an RC that fast before? Something this small is incredibly fast at 50mph.

I run the Team Orion VST Pro Modified 9.5t Brushless Sensored "Big Block" on the Castle Creations MMP 1/10 Sensored ESC. It's plenty fast with a 32t pinion using the 1/16th Summit tires.

I have the cc 5700kv with the sv2 esc. Got it for $120. It is really fast on 2s and has way mire power than u will ever need. Just be prepared to make some repairs to your merv. These little cars going that fast = trouble sometimes but its worth it.

I still run all stock driveshafts on my NEU 1110/1y MERV, I just make sure my slipper it set right and not too tight.

if you go big block like rcfan said probably 4600 or 5700 and with decent batteries running parallel no you won't need the cap!

i was thinking about getting one when i am done testing the 9000 but i will probably go back to sb either my 5200kv or 6000kv but probably my neu 1110 1/y

89.00 is a good deal for a brand new combo, I paid around 115.00 some time ago.

The 5700 will spin faster than 4600 so it will be a faster motor, when geared the same at the same voltage.
