Running on 3s acts like battery is dead and goes to slow mode

I have been running 2s with a 15tooth with no problèms bashing 140 deg motor temp. On the track would hit 170. Now I got a 3s battery and sometimes it acts like the battery is dead and cuts power to half. If I unplug the battery it's fine when I plug it back in. I was hitting 190 motor and 140 spd control. I went to a 13tooth and it still did it. Btw it's 40deg outside.

    Please help.

    Thanks!

Sounds like u have a bad cell on your battery. Did you check the volts of each cell yet ?

It could be going into overheating protection on the esc. What temps are you getting on th esc? If it is new enough Traxxas will do a warranty replacement of your motor system.

My esc has never hit over 140. I balanced the battery and all the cells look fine. It would do this when the cells were at 3.9+v.

Sly, next time it happens see if you have any LED codes.

slow blinking red- LVC (second guess)

fast blinking red - thermal shutdown stage 1 (first guess)

alternating blinks red & green- over voltage protection, it will cut all power to motor. (highly unlikely)

I had one of my VXL's go into OVP ^ red & green on 3s. If I ran it continuously for 3-5 min. without stopping it would be fine. If I would stop within that time, I would have to un-plug it and start over.

I have that issue with a couple of my vxl's. I can plug a fully charged 3 cell in and it says it's dead. But if I disconnect it then plug it back in all is fine

It was a fast blinking red. So does that mean my speed control is getting to hot or my motor?

ESC is getting to hot, the motor has no sensor to protect it.
