thanks! im thinking of doing this for my sons traxxas
Be sure to throw some paint on that purty motor. The Dewalt will show surface rust after a few damp runs if you don't keep it dry![]()

If you don't mind me asking...
What did you pay for the motor and brushes?
Did the brushes come as a pair?
Whatever it is I just typed... could be wrong.
They did come as a pair (the brushes). Both total was like 40 bucks. Not bad IMO.

The only reason I got them is because I heard or read on here that they only last about 2 or 3 months. I hope to get a year out of mine.

i have been thinking about buying that motor thanks for the info!
With great brushless comes great responsibility.
I called my "local" DeWALT repair center earlier today... they are an hour drive each way... $50 just for the motor and they sell the brushes individually at $8 each.
I am now looking for more reasonable prices online...

That's a good price you got there bamafan from the dewalt center
I just picked that up from a local dewalt service center here for $36( add 13% tax on top for us T.O folks)
I asked about the replacement brushes and it was $5 a piece.
Just wanted something to do during the winter months and be ready when I need it
Which seller, sickness?
Whatever it is I just typed... could be wrong.
In the US motors are $30.85 and brushes are $5.57pr plus applicable tax from the Dewalt Service centers.

i've never seen anyone sell brushes individually, the always come as a pair in a sealed packet. Maybe they meant individual pack. Nice shiney motor them things are huge.

The guy at the dewalt service center said you'll need 2 brushes for $9.xx so I deciceded to wait until needed
@ jimmie pg19801
$8 each for a brush you can buy two for about that price. Even on fleEbay.
Mines looking a bit rusty now, which gives me a job during the week to see how well it polishes up and give it some maintenance. It's been in 21 months with only a quick spray and check on the brushes 3 times in that time.

Reminds me: you may want to put some sort of rust inhibitor on the outside of the Dewalt motor can. If not, surface rust can appear very quickly. I use CorrosionX but I suppose some people would even paint the can.

would you use like some paint that u use on barbecues
With great brushless comes great responsibility.
I used blue painters tape to mask off both ends. I made tape "plugs" for the openings. I used a high temp red spray that we had in the shop at work.

I don't think high temp paint is really needed... most standard paints will handle the heat that the motor can handle.

What about some kind of wrap? I still believe you would have to spray the can with something and blow it out after hard and wet runs....any thoughts?

theres no way of totally protecting it, where ever there is air vents, or fan, will take in water. Putting a wrap on will very quickly over heat it and damage it alot quicker.
It will be a long time before any corrosion on the inside will do any damage if any. The outside won't do any damage, it's just nice to look good.

Well got round to polish the motor, Bad news is i've lost the hex key for the pinion so i had to loosen the motor and just do it in situ. What a sickener but wasn't as bad as i thought.
If I find the hex i'll take it all out and give it a finer grit to polish it up real nice and shiney like an integy bulkhead.
