hey all,
I was driving my traxxas summit pretty tamely and one of the driveshafts broke off at the bulkhead.
what are good driveshafts to get and how do I install them?
ps: mind went blank, so I'm not sure if its called an axle or a driveshaft... it turns the wheels! from the bulkhead!
cheers guys

driveshaft, now im not sure if its the diffs and the drive shafts or just the diffs but i know the e revo drive train parts are built stronger to take the power of the mamba monster, i could be completely wrong but it was just what i am pretty sure i read, could someone correct me if im wrong? thanks
With the possible exception of the necessarily more complicated diffs, the Summit drivetrain parts are as strong or stronger than E-Revo drivetrain parts.
Exactly what part failed? The plastic driveshaft or the steel output yoke or the steel output shaft?

im not sure how to upload photos but its not that part its the plastic driveshaft part
I use www.tinypic.com to upload.
Go to the website and click browse and find the picture to upload.
Then go down to the resize and make it 640 x 480 or smaller.
Then click upload.
Once you have gone passed the spam protector it starts uploading.
when it has uploaded copy the link wher it says (IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards)...
paste this link into you post.

Next question front or rear.
Looking head on at the truck the right front shaft and rear left shaft are shorter
Because of the diff lock.
Also because I happen to have my parts list and exploded views out in front of me
5656 is the long plastic parts
5655 is the short. " "
5650 is the center driveshafts

Is it this bit that is broken.

disregard me asking bout the photos

I haven't broken any drive shafts yet but what others do for a quick fix while they are waiting for parts to turn up is to drill another set of holes at 90 degrees of the original holes for the pin.
LMK if you need a pic to show you that.
That quick fix is temporary and has made the shaft even weaker so you will need to order a new one.
Now looking at that picture it looks like the left front shaft if you are looking head on with the truck. This means you wil have to buy part #5656 which is the longer shaft.

OK so you have torn a bit of the drive shaft off here
What others have done is get a drill bit the same size as this pin.
Then they drill holes through the axle at 90 degrees to the originals as shown in the picture.
Finished product should look like pic in post #106 in this thread.

Hope this helps

Rock n Rolla !
also where can i buy a new one as im in aus and cant buy from traxxas
When you take it apart you will see there is a grub screw that holds the pin in place...the CV output and stub axle both have them.
This is my eRevo build thread...you can see it here, post #44
Buy them off eBay...Long shaft #5656 and short #5655
Rock n Rolla !
Now, wouldn't it be great if Traxxas just made the shafts with the extra holes at 90 degrees and the little extra bit of plastic around the holes too. Then we could just swap the pin to the new holes and keep on truckin'. Good for the environment as there'd be less plastic at landfill and our trucks would be "greener".![]()

Rock n Rolla !
Yarra trails should have some spots...I moved from Melb to Brisbane Jan 2012 for work. If you ever in Maldon they have a downhill MTB track there...near the water tower, its the only one. Its a bit of a hike but they have some spots there that would be good for a Summit.
Rock n Rolla !
I use ebay or tower hobbies. thats if i don't nick down to the hobby shop in brisbane.
I did some research and there is a dealer called RC GARAGE. they are based in boronia... not far from centre of melbourne.
You can order online or they are at 394 dorset road, Boronia.
Anyway check them out at www.rcgarage.com...
The bit you want is the long half shaft set...part #5656... comes in a pack of 2
