That trans has had a stench for most of the people that posted about it. Not to say that some are not working out, its just that very few have stepped up to the plate to defend that trans.
Ya can't polish fertilizer...
honestly, i have been running mine for the past 6 months, i did have problems, but it was all user error. i snapped a trans case on it because i left out a screw on the motor plate, and hit rear first pretty hard. that, and on the top shaft, one of the shims are just a hair too big, so i grinded it down a tiny bit. no binding. i also have the metal idler gear, just for good measure. but besides that, this trans has been golden. the differential is fantastic, has not leaked one drop and there is absolutely no problems. even the spur gears are amazingly tough, ive burnt out many stockers doing the things this one does. the slipper also works great too. very consistent. but best of all, the heat is never a problem anymore, it doesnt matter what i do it never tops 140 during a 7 minute race on a 10.5 tekin redline. ill admit the way it mounts the stock traxxas bumper is a horrible way to go and the proline rear bumper is almost a must have, (i managed to find a secure way to mount a rpm bumper mount onto it, no problems) i wouldnt want anything else.
lol, now i realize that there are 3 pages and people arent talking about the trans anymore ..

if you want me to i can break your truck for free!
Are you basically building a proline slash (meaning not a single traxxas part)
Slash 4x4 LCG+(rolling)HCG, Slash 2wd(raptor)
you will most def enjoy it, i finished my build on my pro 2. came in second in A main today.
2wd slash, PL LCG, CC 3800, Powerstrokes, S6040
I have a pro line/STRC slash and its been great! although I don't like how the trans will not accept an RPM bumper, it may be up ffor sale and i'll get the RPM case and FLM sealer diff.
You will soon find there are a lot of things that trans wont except, power for one.
before you install it open it up and put a machined aluminum idler gear in,if you want to finish the first race.
their nick name, tho not my words, but I agree 100% "bubble gum transmission"
I got stuck with one before word got out. Now I have a bag with $200 in replacement parts for it. But if I need to use reel power,I have two good old traxxas with rpm cases that take all the power I put to them.
And a email from Aron of pro line him self saying, the trans wasn't made for that kind of power.
The cc 3800kv was made for sct trucks, what was the trans made for?
Built Ford Tuff With Chevy Stuff.
Didnt Pro Line announce that they were going to be selling pretty much the same thing this guy is building as an RTR or something? or am i crazy?
I'll agree to a point rag6. First machined aluminum and steel, are the same price at my lhs $9.99.Regular steel is cheaper yes $2.99 but far less refined, and clearly not as smooth of a finish, And since I am meshing it with a plastic diff gear,I haven't blown a diff in a while.
With the steel idler, not machined,I took out two diffs in three weeks, since I went to machined aluminum I have not had it let go yet, and knock wood, its been a couple months.
One week I had to take the aluminum mounting plate and straighten it out on the anvil, because you cant get a good bumper set up on them.
I was going to go with Robinson, but the gear face is to wide,It's fine in the traxxas diff, but hits the UN modeled end of the pro line diff splines.
Robinson idlers don't have the little in set on the sides, thou the difference is small, its enough to make them not fit.
In fact when I took it apart for servicing,I was quite surprised at how well every thing inside looked. For my Traxxas diffs I will stay with steel idlers, but as far as pro line is concerned, when it goes it will be replaced with aluminum, unless they start selling a steel diff gear. That would be a hole new ball game.
Just my 25 cents.

Just try and run a high power motor/esc with that alum trx idler... it lasted 1 pull of the throttle on 2s with a castle 4600. It was made +-10 years ago as an upgrade to deal with hotter(back then) brushed motors. It turns into molten junk with todays power. That is why traxxas designed the steel idler... Because the alum idler cant withstand the power of the titan...lol

CF vinyl on ProLine is the least ironic thing I've seen this year.
I like the pic in post #2. That's easily $75 more than two SC10 Factory Team kits.
No hard feelings, but why do you care so much about what other people spend their money on? If he likes the process of building up a Slash to make it win, then so be it. You clicked on the thread knowing it was a build for a Pro-2. It's his money, let him spend it however he wants.
So... I went to his house and snatched his money out of his hands? I stated an opinion, no more or less valid than yours. If he can't take criticism, he shouldn't start threads. Welcome to the internet. The basis of my comments is not something founded out of a desire just to hate things for hate's sake. I am disgusted with what ProLine has become over the years-- and I've been buying their parts for over 2 decades. I went from a guy that paid extra to order a PL product on release date, to a guy who won't run so much as a ProLine sticker on one of my trucks. So when I see the OP-- or anyone for that matter-- throw down their hard earned money for a complete Pro2 build, if anything... it makes me sad.
So until PL fixes their awful QC (driveshafts don't fit their own parts, ProTrac arms keep changing lengths, tire compounds dry out and crack in record time, plastics quality is all over the board, molded parts riddled with air voids, bodies made of frangible lexan, etc, etc) I'll keep letting people know about it. It's not hate-- it's a desire to inform people. We've all bought things because they're shiny or look fancy-- and PL has that in spades. Too bad the overall quality is so poor.
not to be mean to you dr i .i like your comments...every one has there reasons... like me and dubro screws. if i buy a 3x15mm screw i expect a 3x15mm screw not a 3x15mm screw with a 1 extra mm extension between the threads and the head there for making it a 3x16mm screw...two parts gone
but post #9.....
