It'll be fine, as long as it is short grass.
In fact, even buggies will be fine on short grassMy local club's summer track is grass.
Anyway, if you set up a track on grass you won't have much grass left after repeated running

If you buy a LiPo capable charger, I wouldn't waste the time or money buying extra NiMh batteries - go straight to LiPo...
Buy SPC brand online - a 2S 5000 mAh 30C battery for only $27... much better, consistent power and longer run times!
Just make sure you put your ESC in the LiPo LVC mode and buy a safe charging bag or metal ammo box to charge/store. NiMH is not worth the time if you're already going to buy a faster charger and extra batteries.

What broke, uh, needs upgrading now?
The Slash handles kind of lousy on grass IF you buy one with the BF Goodrich tires. The stock BFG tires have lousy traction on anything but pavement. If you get one with the Kumho tires, they do fairly well on all surfaces. If you can get a Slash with the Kumho brand tires, you'll be much happier offroad than if you get one with the BFG tires. Someday when you wear out the stock tires, buy some good aftermarket tires to see a world of difference in traction!

I've heard the Thunder AC6 is a low-end charger, from some experienced members, but I'm sure a lot of people have bought it and used it just fine. I may not be the best to recommend a "cheap" charger since I bought a setup that can charge up to 4 or more batteries at once with a dedicated power supply for almost $200.
I'm sure there are some other members that might be able to recommend a good charger. The Onyx 235 or the Dynamite Passport Ultra are good chargers, I think.

Don't skimp on your charger, its the heart of your system,I have an onyx 235 $89 not the best but one of the better.https://www.google.com/#hl=en&safe=o...w=1366&bih=594
Built Ford Tuff With Chevy Stuff.
They are both great trucks. You can't really go wrong with either by just changing tire size and style and suspension settings. Do what u feel! Is the stampede an onroad car, no, but don't tell my nephew because we turned a million laps racing each other with pedes a couple years ago and had a blast. Sometimes trying to drive something well that's not east to drive is half the fun (just an example). Both trucks are very versatile. I've had a lot of different types of RCs over the years and if I had to be stranded on a desert island with one RC. Pede, every time.
Slash is great for on road and off road, stampede is 90% offroad. I have the AC6, but go for the AC680, it has a built in fan and can charge at 6 amps instead of 5 for a few extra dollars. I love the AC6 though. Its a good, reliable charger, perfect for those just getting into the hobby, but get the AC680 found at nitrorcx or hobbypartz. I got 2 aky lipo 5000mah 40c 2s for $30 each and I love them.
Brushless Rips, Nitro Drips!!! BL Power FTW!
Sky lipo whoops sorry. Not aky, it's harder to type on my phone at midnight where I live![]()

The stampede is alot more fun to drive
Way higher ground clearance too
I have both
Slash 2wd, Slash 4x4, 30th digger, Rustler VXL
The stampede is a great basher. However if you buy the brushed version it comes with bushings instead of bearings and non adjustable camber links (weaker). So the slash is a better value. AC6 is a good cheap charger. I have been using a acucell 6 22$ for a year can't complain about it. I have both the stampede and slash I like the slash better plus the body and bumper protect it.
I will be buying it tomorrow online with
2 SPC Li-Po 5000mAh 30C 2S 7.4V
Duratrax Onyx 235 AC/DC
Pro-Line VW Baja Bug Clear Body
And also to add to that will i have to break in the motor or not?
The stampede?
Vxl?
Slash 2wd, Slash 4x4, 30th digger, Rustler VXL
If you are buying the brushed model you do need ( should ) break in the motor.
Remember to use tower coupon codes!!!
Slash 4x4
Stampede 4x4
Stampede 2WD
You might want a Traxxas Blast for the lake part. I have a slash & stampede & I like my stampede better for backyard bashing.

And what would be a good brushless motor to upgrade to
If your going to end up going brushless you might as well get it now instead of upgrading later I picked up a slash (5803) which was the brushed titan and less than a week I ended up doing the traxxas power up deal and got the vxl system for 130$ It's where you bring your titan 12t 550 motor and xl-5 esc to your lhs and tell them you want to do the traxxas power up you get around 50% off the system you want, but that's if you don't mind getting rid of your stock brushed system which I didn't care for
Good choice going w/ the vxl I will be trying a different motor esc combo in my next trucks, I don't know what I want to pick up next I really wish traxxas would make a 1/5 electric
