Boss 302 build

I've been planning to do another 1/16 build since I have so many parts left over from my Merv build. I recently got a good deal on a 1/16 rally roller on ebay so I'm ready to start this.

So far I have
Velineon VXL3m
Traxxas 2080 servo
GH shock bodies
RPM arms
RPM carriers
Traxxas push rods and toe links
Integy steel cvds
Hot Racing rockers

I ordered
steel balls
diff shims
bearings
Boss 302 body


They rest I will replace as the parts break. I may do the 200mm chassis later on down the road. I'm working on rebuilding the shocks tonight

I finished the shock rebuild. Not very pretty but they have screw on retainers.

I finished the rear up. The diff didn't need a single shim. I put 30k fluid in it. I just received the steel balls so I need to install them now.

What brand are those shocks? traxxas GTR with different body and caps?

They are golden horizon shock bodies with stock pistons and shock ends. I need to order stiffer things. I spent all day working on this thing and finally finished it up. I still need to put steel balls in the rear. I put a Reedy 3300kv motor on it. I have to gear 33/55 so that I can get a good mesh. The integy servo saver is really crappy. There is too much play..

BTW how come you have your rear shock way stiffer then the front?

Thanks! that's the body that came with the roller, I don't like it either. I was messing with different springs. It's definitely not the final setup. I just ordered Traxxas black springs TRA7432 and tan springs TRA7431. I'm researching right now how the suspension should be set up.

IT could be painted all black. My Boss 302 body should be in today. I'm deanodizing all the red aluminum right now. The shock bodies are almost pink and they aren't looking very good either. X0-1?! carbon fiber chassis..8s setup..but I can't, there is too much slop in the slash suspension for me to be interested

That will look good. So, was that body painted, why is it red? If so, would it be like a black cherry color if painted black.

Yeah thats the downside. I've fixed most of the slop with a few mods. Its a blast of an onroad car to drive. I take mine, whenever i get a chance, to the local Football field waking track. Its a soft asphault and handles extremely well on there.

I started the deanodizing. I like this look a lot better. Maybe I should dye the arms too?

haha thanks man, I love building these cars...this is number 18...the 1/16 cars seem to take longer to work on for some reason..I'm not sure why that is. I'll have some updated pics later tonight. I went to my buddy's house tonight and he resoldered 3.5mm connectors back onto my velineon 1/16 motor. I didn't want to rung that big reedy. Now I can have the rear swaybars from my MERV build on here. I also picked up some black paint and sprayed the rally body. Hopefully the boss body comes in tomorrow...not sure what color I'll paint it but I'm definitely not skilled enough to make it match a factory Boss 302 Mustang.

I agree. I'm going to leave the aluminum "natural". I spent about 60 hours polishing parts on my emaxx..I'm definitely over that lol

I'm having a problem with the motor now. When i press the trigger it kind of cogs and doesn't move. I tried different batteries, unplugging the fan, switching the leads around, recalibrating the esc and I took the motor apart to see if a bearing was seized. The esc worked with the Reedy motor the other day. I did have new connectors soldered on last night. Here are some videos of what it is doing

I just got off the phone with traxxas..the motor is messed up. It must have gotten overheated when soldering. The reedy motor still works fine with the esc. Back to the big block I go

I got the body in and the big block installed. Here it is for now. It's so nice that the body came pre trimmed.

Oh man that looks good. Looks way better. I really like the Red RPM arms, adds flare. Thought of adding faux disk brakes??

Well I wasn't planning on this mod but my friend at the lhs said buy one get one free...I couldn't refuse lol time to deanodize. I think I'll rit dye the arms while it's apart again

You shouldnt have a problem with Integy there, but be cautious when hunkering them down with the fasteners. Their aluminum seems to be real cruddy 99% of the time.

I may have to trim the top of the rocker mount a little so the HT rocker posts don't bind.

I'm strongly considering it since I have 2 F150 Lightning body professionally painted for 200mm sedan. One to match my 1:1 truck and a RedBull race truck and only 1 Tamiya TT01e to use them on..

Where did you purchase those "12 spoke" rims, they look awesome! If you put those fake brake rotor&calipers behind them it would look incredible- very scale, and would hide the axle carriers.

The came with the touring car chassis. I don not know what brand they are or where to get them. I got the integy bulkheads deanodized and installed along with the stock arms

Nope it's pretty much done unless I decide to make changes later. I'm not happy with the big block so I may go back to the velineon but that would require me buying another one. I also may get the 200mm chassis but I'm going to enjoy it like it is for now
