    Castle creations sidewinder 8?!?!

Hey yall Ive had my emaxx for a long time and ive been waiting on buying a brushless system until now (maybe) I checked on the bigsquid rc webpage and this is what was there The price tag for this system is $220 and i was like sweet! i didnt want to spend like 350 on the MM2 system so im thinking this is a great deal. Who has this? or who is thinking of purchasing it? Also what do you guys think? here is the link to it on bigsquid rc http://www.bigsquidrc.com/castle-cre...v-motor-combo/

I dig the case. Looks like it'll be good for companies to use as an RTR ESC too. I wonder what vehicle(s) the screw holes are spaced to fit.

With the added BEC power and short simple fan connector, I could see people swapping their MM2 out for this, even with the loss of some features.

So is this better than the mm2? If so, why?

    Better? I don't think so...
It looks to be a MM2 with reduced features so far.

The BEC is non-adjustable and fixed at 5.5 volts... the MM2 is adjustable up to 7 volts.

I don't see any amperage ratings yet... hopefully those are the same.
Whatever it is I just typed... could be wrong.

    Yikes... that is quite low.
If I remember correctly the MM2 is rated for 120 amps.

I wonder if this ESC is closer to the Traxxas MXL6?

Isn't the new Traxxas esc just a mm2 in a blue case?

The esc should have a price of $99, mm2 is $140

Quick start guide says it needs batteries of 90A continuous and 125+ burst. BEC says 4.5A continuous at 5.5v and 8A peak.

Since castle, as far as I've seen, is still including the regular 1515 motor with their 8th scale systems, I would conclude that the MXL-6s is the same as an MM2.

Possibly, but as JN remarked, it is still unknown and unproven.

They have to price it that way or else every one will buy one and they will be left with tons of extra parts. You have to remember that for every ESC they get there the rest of the car to sell as well. Just wait awhile and it should go back down.

Oh yeah... give it about 6-8 months.
Like most businesses, they will price up a new product because there is demand... and since it is new there is also a supply issue. Once supply and demand balance out, I imagine this ESC will be around $125.

I'll be pre-ordering one for my E-Maxx 3903 (coming in the mail) in the next day or so. Looks like a solid system for the money. The warranty alone is worth the purchase.

    Slower.

Not sure if that combo can support a Revo. 90amps is kinda on the low side.

On 4s it should be fine in an e-revo, as long as it's not over-geared. The included motor likely has a little lower amp rating than the regular castle 1515 motor.

It would run the 1512 motor you already have just fine too.

Another option would be to send your MM to castle along with $85, and they'd send you back a MM2.

Lastly, you could get a bottle of corrosion x, and use it to waterproof your MM. I've done it with a MM and two MMP's lately with great success.

Thanks for the info. I've seen the corrosion x and plasti dip method. I really don't want to void the warranty. Now that I'm researching and looking things over, I think the best way for me is to keep my E-Revo the way it is and throw the sidewinder 8 into
my E-Maxx. My only concern is, as mentioned by jimmie above the amperage is only 90amp. My mamba 2650kv combo is 120amp. Can someone explain the difference and what the amperage actual does?

Someone did answer your question... most likely, it will be SLOWER because the esc has a lower output than the mm esc. If you want more speed, sell the 2650 and buy a 2200 and run 6s

I decided to go with the Kershaw Designs twin 700 HO conversion with 25t pinions. The Sidewinder 8 looks good, but I didn't like the fixed 5.5v internal BEC. If I decide to buy more powerful servos like the 7955TG, I don't think the SW8 could handle those. I'm sure an external BEC would remedy that, but for what I want to achieve with my E-Maxx like just bashing around the street and doing some minor off-roading at the park, the twin 700's and a couple of 2s li-poly batts will be more than enough. I may get the SW8 and a CCBEC down the road though.
