Help with transmission

Hi all!! What would cause this problem? The gears seem to turn fine but the car will just not go. Thanks for any help. This is an older Nitro Sport, bought new in 2001-02 ish. Thanks for any help. VOLUME WARNING!!

How's the slipper? Do you have the pegs in the spur gear?

Hi, thanks for the reply. This is an older model. I don't think it has the slipper clutch. There is no spring behind the nut on the spur gear.

Idler gear inside tranny case might be stripped. Common problem too being plastic.

idler gear ,get one for the nitro slash ,its a metal one and its like a dollar more than the plastic one.

it has a weird clutch on the spur. Remove the nut and make sure the disk didnt spin a groove in the slipper. Maybe even check the clutchbell. I tore so many things down to realise I overlooked a simpl we easy fix!

There is what looks like string wrapped around the left rear axle. Between the wheel and the bushing. Hmmm.

Flip the spur and take a picture. I do not believe those screws should be there.

Plus, you should fill all the holes with pegs.

Looked at the exploded views again, and it appears that is correct as it may be a model not originally equipped with a slipper. If that is the case, then the damage is internal.

Got the transmission off. I feel the need to give the case a real good cleaning before I disassemble it, though. Any suggestions on the best way to clean it?

Hmmm, the idler looks in really good shape. All the teeth are sharp and it shows no damage.

Differential gears all look good and operates smoothly

I guess I will put it back together and see what happens.

I bet removing the string will do the trick. From what I can tell, your transmission appears to be functioning properly and there are no clicking sounds indicating that something is stripped. It simply looks like something is causing a lot of drag, and a string tightly wrapped around something in the drive train could certainly cause that.

As for cleaning the transmission case, I just use paper towel, cue-tips, and a multipurpose cleaner (usually some sort of Windex that I stole from under my kitchen sink--don't tell my wife!).

Cleaned everything up real good and reassembled the rear end. Took it out and ran 4 tanks through it and it ran like a champ. Thanks for all the suggestions and advice!!
