A thread dedicated to rustlers built for speed.

Hey guys, i wanted to start a thread directly focused on all those speed rustlers out there and also some people including myself can get some more ideas for theirs. I guess i'll start out with mine, but i'm on my phone so i can't embed it. http://s1313.photobucket.com/profile.php?do=editpassword/xN...D=1&sort=1&o=0

22/50 on the 2400 with 4s would get you to 80mph. It also depends on what gearbox you have, I'm closed to maxed out with my Integy without modifying it for the gears to fit.

I wish you look aiming for 110, what type of garmin is that? I'm looking into buying one.
I'm only aiming for the 90mph club, i only have a castle 2400kv in it. Also this chassis adds alot of extra weight, very thick and sturdy. I'm glad i got it though, amazing upgrade. The big bores are awesome too. The only thing left on my truck that i haven't upgraded is the transmission case (About to get an flm one), Rear shock tower, turnbuckles and camber links. I upgrade as i break.

Here's what I've got so far. 87 mph is the top speed so far. Still experimenting with weight and gearing to hit the 100 mph mark!

Here's a sorta crappy pic of mine. MMM/2200kv, Wide mod up front, GRP belted tires, HR alum gear box, MIP CVDs, STRC rear 1 toe in hubs, Trx alum caster blocks, Trx 17mm hubs.

The gearing in the photo is 25/36 which is what I started out at. Got it to top out at 99.6mph at that gearing. Switched to 27/34 last week and finally hit 104mph. I went out the other night on a real nicely paved 4 lane road knowing I could do better than 104 if I pinned the throttle a bit longer, but I gave it too much throttle and the front end lifted up, backflipped, skidded along the road on it's lid, somehow hopped the curb and luckily missed all sorts of signs and trees.

Busted the rod end off one of the shocks, snapped one my CVDs clean off at the stub axle, and nicked the endbell of the motor up a bit. Could have been a lot worse for a 90mph crash, lol.

Luckily it won't be too hard to fix, but I learned my lesson. I didn't have my front bumper pointed downward enough, and I don't think my rear suspension was stiff enough to keep the front from lifting when I hammered it.

I'm nowhere near or will come close to y'all speeds lol. I just put my nitro rustler carriers on the front so I can use my anaconda's without having to buy another set. I am waiting on my slash 6852x axles, 31/76 gears. I will only be using a 2s 30c 5000mah spc battery for now. I also lowered the shocks. Last time I ran it for speed it was stock except for lowered shocks and the optional pinon. Went roughly 46mph. Maybe one day I'll get to crazy fast speeds

I had a little over a pound of lead weights up front... I think my front bumper just wasn't pointed down far enough.

I just bought my rustler. I used to race nitro ones many years ago. But I would like to get my rustler up to eat 75mph. I don't know where to start. Any help please. Break it down like your talking to a 4 year old lol

If all you're shooting for is 75mph then something like a MMP/3800kv combo on 3s would do the trick. Or for a little less $$$, a Hobbywing SC8/Leopard 3800kv... On 3s with a 3800kv you'll have to gear up to about 25/54 to hit 75.

For tires G Locs will suffice. They'll hold up just fine at 75-80mph. Or you could go with GRP belted tires but you'll need the 17mm adapters for those.

You'll also want to lower the body quite a bit. I've seen all sorts of creative ways of doing it like using things to limit the shock travel or changing the mounting location of the shocks on the arms or towers. Pretty much whatever works.

Well today I went 57.4mph. I changed to 31/76 gearing with an spc 2s 30c 5000mah battery. Next I want to get a 3s. I was thinking an spc 3s 65c 6500mah to get to that 70mph mark. Without going carbon fiber/composite is there another option for a light weight chassis and shock towers?

Also, I think I may be able to get another 2-3mph out of it but I have some binding in the right rear. I just put some 6852x axles in. The left spins very nice and care free. The spur spins just as smoothly. So its has to be somewhere between the yoke and bearings I would imagine. When I go half to full throttle it just spins wildy out of control.

Yea drill bits and a dremel tool lol every little bit helps.

Also weight doesn't affect top speed just acceleration so worry more about gearing and battery's unless you have a small space to run in

Throw like 40/76 in it, just do like one or two passes because i bet it'll get very hot fast. If you have the plastic tranny case you can dremel the bottom slider out more so the motor will slide back more to fit bigger gears.

Does Traxxas make a 40t pinion? I saw where robinson racing makes one and I believe it fits the right size shaft for the velineon motor. What's the difference between the hard nickel and hard aluminum?

I don't know if traxxas does, but i ordered a 40t pinion from amainhobby that had a 3mm bore (Will fit the vxl). I believe it was from Robinson racing.

Just ordered a Traxxas 3s 25c 4000mah lipo. Only reason I got it is because it was available on amazon prime to get here tomorrow (hopefully). After I get use to the speeds and all that I'll see about trying a 36t & 40t pinion.

Got bored so while waiting for my new tires to be delivered I tried a speed run with some Gladiators. Bad idea lol. They ripped and it ripped the front tire out a little. This is a lot harder than I thought it would be. You really have to rooooooll on to the power for sure.
