    New Member Introduction

    Hello Everyone-

My name is Steve and I've been lurking in this forum for a while.
Finally joined and thought I should introduce myself.

I have been into R/C's off and on since the 80's.
    I started with Tamiya models:
Sand Scorcher (also have the Rough Rider body for it),
Porsche 956 RM. Mk. 5, and
    Vanessa's Lunch Box.
I still have all of them!

In 2003(?) I got an E-Maxx 3906. Ran it for a few years and life got busy.
Put it in it's bin and it's been there for about 9 years!

Earlier this year I bought my son a LaTrax Teton. Once we started playing with it
the R/C bug came back. About a month ago I got a Mini E-Revo VXL.

    Current mods:

    Proline Baja Bug Body
Proline Dirt Hawgs with Titus Beadloc 2.2 (yes... I've re-geared for it)
    ONFA 1/10 Scale Downforce Wing
    GTR Shocks with 80W Oil
Tan Springs up front and Black out back
    Hot-Racing Sway Bars
Traxxas Aluminum Turnbuckles and Tie Rods
    Steel Hollow Balls
Integy Motor and Motor Mount Heat Sink
    Hot Racing Steering Knuckles
    T-Bone Racing 4pc Chassis Brace
    RPM 1/10 Slash Front Bumper
    SPC LiPO 2S Batteries
    Benchmark Power Supply
    Junsi iCharger 206B

That's all for now... I think.

Mods I have the parts for but haven't started/completed yet:

Different body and mount for the heck of it
6 3mm LED Light Kit for the RPM Slash Front Bumper and Brake Lights
TA 21141 Shim Kits (still need to break it down and do this!)

Current RTRs are fun, but I miss the actual building of the kits...
I guess that's what repairs and upgrades are for!

Heye Squeegie house do you like the Teton for beginner children? I am about to start teaching my son to be for year old son to drive my merv but I want to get him something. I thought the Teton would be great for him.

I was thinking the same thing, until I started reading about the teton. Basically what I got out of about 2 weeks of "research" is that the teton is an ok truck once you get past the "crashing into everything" stage, but is not durable enough to learn on. Also keep in mind that the teton will not go the places a mini revo will go. Terrain that a mini revo will tackle without breaking a sweat will stop a teton cold... At the same time, terrain that is fun to drive a teton on, can be boring with a mini revo.

So are you saying that I put my brushless slash in training mode and give him a 2s Lipo or should I order a nimh for him. Or could I use an easy start battery?

Depends on how much money you have to spare.
If you have the cash to get another brushless 1/16 for training, go for it.
I didn't want to spend too much in case my son doesn't get into it.
If he does, I'll give him my MERV.
I still have an E-Maxx and 1/10 Slash Platinum 4x4 for myself!

Well I was thinking about the Teton because it is do much cheaper and should me slower and easier to learn on out of the box.

Actually, a Teton in "normal" mode is about the same speed as a mini revo in training mode on a single 2 cell lipo... In fact its faster than a mini summit (in training mode).... A Teton out of the box is around 20Mph... My faster mini summit, with big joe II's, 16/50 gearing, and two 2 cell lipos in parallel, tops out at 18.5mph in training mode, according to my garmin GPS unit I velcroed to it...

As for cost, you should be able to find a used mini revo or summit for $200, so the cost is not much higher, but you are getting a WAY better truck, and often that will include upgrades like RPM arms and lipos.... I paid $250 for my used mini summit, and that included full RPM arms, 2 sets of lipos, and a spektrum DX3c with two receivers..... Mine was an extra good deal, but I keep an eye on the local classifieds here and routinely see them for $175-$225....

I'm actually think about putting a titan on my slash and handing him the transmitter. Once he gets it I can put the brushless castle and the side winder 2 back on it. What do you think about that?
