All Terrain Nitro 4Tec (aka Nitro Telluride)

Ok, so after looking at my 4Tec collect more and more dust, I question why I still had it? I like on road cars, but I get bored after a while. I have seen others make an off road version of there 4Tec, like the Rally conversion, and thought this was the best route for me as well. Then I see my Telluride and the ideas started to flow! It really wasn't too difficult to make the Telluride suspension work with the 4Tec. There was only minor modification to the chassis for the arms to have the desired travel room. I had to push the rear shock tower out for the body to mount properly. I also had to trim the arm mounts on the bulkheads to extend the wheelbase about 10mm, spacers added to keep them positioned properly. I also added a remote engine start (XL 2.5) and kill using a 2080 servo. I used the shortest gears and pullies to lower the ratio to compensate for the bigger tires. It is a blast to drive and obviously fast. The remote kill and start are the huge conveniences on this truck. I already have the remote start added to my Revo 3.3 and Jato 3.3 as well.

That's sweet, clean build. Can you post a YouTube video of it running?

Thanks. I will get more pics up soon. Here is a video of the remote start and kill for now. I will try to get an actual running video.

Here are the angles with the body off.

Notice the 2s lipo and esc mounted? That is what I use for the on board starter and the lipo also powers the servos.

The esc is run off of the 3rd channel. The only touchy part of the setup is that when you turn it on, you need to move the switch to the middle for the esc to see "neutral" or it wont arm. Not much to complain about though.
The wire for the ez start motor and the glow plug run off the motor leads on the esc. I found an old EZ start, where the battery was zip tied to the starter, cut it open and took out the resistor to bring the voltage down for the glow plug. You can see the resistor by the engine, long and black, I have it heat shrunk. It works pretty well and I love the convenience.

This was my original conversion, but the tires were too tall for the available gearing options on the 4Tec.

The wheels are Slash wheels (2.2/3.0) and the tires are from the Traxxas Rally. The bigger ones are the 3.8" from the Rustler.

Ok thanks. Have you had any major problems with it? I've seen read alot where ppl say no to do this b/c of the belt drive.

I did have to replace the rear belt, so I made a lexan shield and attached it on the passenger side to keep dirt and rocks out. I only have about an hour on it, but other than the one belt, it has worked great!

Was kind of doggy with the .15 and high speed gears. So I swapped out the gears with the "explosive" acceleration now it rips pretty good even better when I take off the belt to the front tires.

There is a significant power difference from the .15 to the current 3.3! I am sure it is still pretty quick with the .15 though. How does it handle being rear wheel drive?

Likes to drift. Still goes through the grass. Have been debating on putting rear rustler a arms all the way around instead of using the fronts all the way around to stop the roll overs

You are using Rustler fronts all the way around? That is pretty narrow. The Telluride arms are a little longer than the Rustler fronts but the rear Rustler arms are significantly longer!

I'll have to look into that. For some reason I think the guy at the hobby store said it used the same a arms as the stampede. How wide is the body on the telluride? I like having the wheels somewhat tucked under the body.

This is with Telluride arms on all corners. The Rustler rear arms all the way around would increase the width by about 3/4 of an inch, which would mean the tires probably wouldn't be under the body at all. The body width is 8.5in in the front and 8.75in in the back.

That is actually narrower than I thought it would be. Mine is 11" to the outside edge of the tires.

Put on the 3.3 and the better acceleration gear and kept the 15 tooth pulleys on for even better acceleration. This thing is stupid fun now. Made some rubber covers for the belt openings. Thing is too fast for how tall and narrow it. Going to try the rustler rears and see if I can't get traxxas rally body to fit.

    That sounds awesome!
In case you didn't know, the Traxxas Rally wheelbase is 13" and width, to outside edge of tires is 11.5". For width, it shouldn't be a problem, but the Rally wheelbase is about 2" longer than the Telluride.

The width I figured would be good. Am a little scared the wheel base may be too short. Maybe I'll split the difference n give it sweet radius wheelwell. I got rpm a-arms and stampede/slash axles on the way. Hopefully I can start on it this weekend.
