sidewinder 3 vs traxxas velineon for Bashing off road Slash

    Hey all
I've been racking my brains off looking for a good motor for my Slash 4x4. I mainly bash, and race my buddies with occasional time on a track. But its mostly parking lots and dirt fields for me. My Velinion motor took a crap recently after a particularly bad flip that resulted in a bent shaft. I've been debating between just replacing it with the same or trying a new setup.

I've heard some good about the sidewinder 3 but am willing to look at other options as well.

I mainly run 2 cell lypo's, need something water proof and that can take a moderate beating (I've learned my lesson... somewhat), and is good with keeping engine temps low. Compatibility with the velineon esc is a plus but If the setup can be gotten for under $150 I'm willing to go for the motor esc combo.

    Thanks!

Apparently you can send in your old 'bent shaft' vxl system to Traxxas and get a new 4pole Velineon motor with new ESC for $95. It will still be all waterproof and give you at least the same if not better performance than before!

I would not go with the Sidewinder, not enough esc for a big 4X4

The sidewinder is fine for the 4x4 on 2s. I have two of the systems after wrecking the stock Velineon a few times. Mine will now do wheelies off a little bump. No way does the Velineon do that.

My velineon system will raise the heavy pitbull tires off the ground from a little bump. I'm looking into the upgraded 4pole system

I've been reading about 4 pole systems. Are they really that much better?

Would the Sidewinder with 4600kv motor get too hot in the Slash 4x4? On Castle Creations website, under the Gearing Chart it only lists the 3800kv motor and 2400kv for use with the Slash 4x4, and it also says not to use the 2400kv motor with the Sidewinder 3. Not that anyone has suggested to do that. But the 2400kv doesn't do well on 2S.

I just put the 3800kv sidewinder in my slash 4x4 with the 5mm shaft and it made one **** of a difference. More power and torque, motor temps have not gotten over 120 and esc has not seen 100 I do run 2s only bashing on a backyard track and racing buddies on clay dirt.
